Anna question for you on Lamaze
I read your post - I have heard other people say that too - however, you don't think it is helpful to help you to prepare for the whole experience? If I were to skip the class is there anything you could suggest I do?
The lady who offers the class also does a class on breastfeeding and will be there for you after the birth - and she said it's not the breathing part of that's so important - she said that's just a small part -What do you think?
Thanks!

Re: Anna question for you on Lamaze
If this lady will be there for you right after the birth to help out with breastfeeding, then it is well worth it ! IS she coming to your hospital ? or home ?But if you were to just go to a Lamaze class to learn how to breathe, skip it... I found many more uses for $150 !

Re: Anna question for you on Lamaze
If I can pipe in here...we took a childbirth class. Not specifically Lamaze but they did touch on some breathing. But the rest of the class was great. We had a great instructor and we really learned an enormous amount. It was offered through our OB's office but the woman who taught it was a nurse in the maternity section of our hospital so she gaves us great information about what to expect throughout the whole process-the hospital stay as well as the birth. It was us and 3 other couples which was perfect because she was able to answer all our questions. I am a research type person so I read alot about everything throughout my pregnancy but I still found it helpful. I have heard people say they found classes useless, both my SIL's for example, but I liked it and so did DH, and he was initially less gung-ho than I was about going. But if it was just breathing techniques I'd have skipped it. Some of the breathing seemed too foolish to do LOLHTH

Mt friend said the same thing, that it was a waste. She did NOT use any breathing techniques she learned.

Re: Anna question for you on Lamaze
Elizabeth, I agree about the regular classes being helpful. My OB office had a 'first trimester class' and 3rd trimester class. We went to both. We also went to a few other classes at the Suffolk YJCC (all FREE!) ( I Think I Posted on this a while back if anyone is interested, do a search for 'free classes' a few months back).A class on how to breathe, not for me. The nurses at the maternity wards are the best HANDS ON coaches you will need, and hubby too !!
