ANOTHER invitation question!

If you don't have an inner envelope, do you write:

Mr. John Smith and Guest

on the outside envelope that get mailed directly to the guest?

Is it ok to put and guest on the outside?
I'm so confused! Please help me!

Re: ANOTHER invitation question!

I'm not sure what you mean.. it sounds like you are saying you would send an invite to the guest?

We put 'and guest' on the outside envelopes, we didn't have an inner. I personally see no issue with that, some would say you shouldn't put 'and guest' on the outer, the outer should say just
Mr. John Smith
and your inner would read
John and Guest.
Its totally up to you what you want to do.

Re: ANOTHER invitation question!

thus the reason we had inners.

i suppose since there is no inner, 'and guest' on the outside is fine...but really try to use the person's name...it's just polite and tecnically proper etiquette.

Re: ANOTHER invitation question!

If I didn't know the person's name..I used and Guest. (Since I have no inner envelope too!) it actually saves time!

If I am friendly with the 'guest' I used their fulll name

Ms. Mary smith and Mr. Jim Jones

Re: ANOTHER invitation question!

Outer envelope: Mr. John Smith
Ms. Mary Brown
123 Pearl Street
New York, New York 10003

Inner envelope: Mr. Brown and Ms. Smith
(no first names, the inner envelope never includes first names).

We had a few invites where we had to put Ms. Mary Smith and guest just because the person we invited wasn't sure who he/she would bring. In that case, we addressed the outer envelope to the person we knew and put the 'and Guest' on the inner envelope only, soooo:

Outer envelope: Ms Mary Smith
123 Pearl Street
New York, New York 10003

Inner envelope: Ms. Smith and Guest

If no inner, I'd put 'and Guest' on the outside envelope.

HTH!

Re: ANOTHER invitation question!

Thank you all.
I don't have an inner envelope so I wanted to make sure that I could put on the outer envelope:

Mr. John Smith and Guest
1234 Smith Street
New York, New York 10013

Thanks very much to those who responded. It is really appreciated as I was freaking out about this.

I think that's just fine. If you can call 'John Smith' and ask him the guest's name, it's a better option, but if you can't then I'd do exactly what you did above. Good luck, and trust me, you will be much more critical of it than 'John Smith' will! Best of luck to you, and P.S. I LOVE Jack! He's adorable!
