OK who is doing to video montage thingie from the DJ. my cousin had it and I thought it was cute and my dj has someone going around taking digital pictures which get shown on the plasma screen above the DJ. do you think this is a great idea or belongs at a sweet 16? I liked it but my my reception hall manager said most weddings dont do it. what are your thoughts?

It's cute, but just not for me. I'd feel like people would be paying more attention to the pics on the screen than to what's going on at the actual wedding, ya know? But that's just my honest opinion.

same here. it's a nice touch i suppose, but just not for me...especially for the extra amount you have to pay. but if you like it--go for it!

I completely agree. I don't like the photo montages at weddings. I think they are a distraction to what is really going on.

We just booked our DJ last night and we are doing it. It will be initially shown right before we make our entrance into the reception hall and then a replay at dinner. I think it will be about 30-40 pics at 5 seconds each pic, so it is not that time consuming and overbearing to the wedding itself.
I personally don't think it will be a distraction.

we're doing it also.....ive been to a lot of weddings and it doesn't really distract u....if u get the right dj they know when to show the montage so it doesnt interupt anything like either right after ur introduced and they just sat down or when they sit down for dinner

I am doing it! My DJ gave me a great price for it! I am not doing the shots of others from the CH or anything, just FH and I growing up, together and some family & Friends. It then can get incorporated into our video.
I am doing it right before/as dinner is served, so it is not a big distraction and they will be doing nothing but waiting for their dinner/eating...

Im not having a dj but if i was I wouldnt do the montage... My MOH did it at her grad party years ago and it was VERY cute, but i wouldnt like it for my wedding

my friends are doing it.....i think its a great idea! i wanted it but its just another cost for me and its just a $$ issue sadly so we cant do it! if it was part of my package id take it in a heartbeat!

I just went to a wedding where they had both the montage and the clips from the CH and the ceramony. I thought it was all so great but my older aunts and uncles were complaining that it was distracting, overbearing and 'really self absorbed'. That is a direct quote from one of my aunts who was beside herself with the fact that the bride and groom showed a 'movie of themselves' growing up during the dinner service.
Perhaps it's a generational thing. Us 'youngins' can multi task and watch video, while we are on our computers with music in the background. I think older guest are put off by it.

I'll be honest..I don't like it. I agree that it's a bit distracting and to be blunt..don't we watch TV enough as it is?
That being said..I think you should be able to have whatever you want at your wedding! If it's your thing go for it..

We were recently at a wedding and they did this-the only problem was they showed the montage before the first dance!!!-It ruined their first dance-themontage actually stole thunder from the bride and groom and the montage was all about them! I would just do it at a good time-maybe right before dinner???

I always thought it was a nice idea until I went to a wedding where it was completely ruined for the poor bride and groom... Basically, the DJ stopped everything that was going on-took about 5 minutes to put a screen up and a projector- Sat the bride and groom on the dance floor (at their only moment to eat) All by themselves...only for the pictures to come on and no music-so the DJ proceeds to take another 5 minutes (which is a long time when waiting for something to happen) to fix the music-then gets the music to play and not the pictures- FINALLY they got it to work and it was okay- lots of pics of her dad who passed away-a nice touch- Finally at the end, the bride got up and LOUDLY said- OKAY now can we dance! I felt bad for her, she seemed embarrassed. (mind you the dj was just okay-and this is probably why this happened)but I felt like it took unncessary time out the dancing part of the wedding-
