Another question for you ladies - a REAL one - what the heck am I going to do on a 24 hour plane ride???

We are going to Thailand - My Ipod will probably die after a few hours... I'll bring a book or 2, some magazines... have NO patience whatsoever for any type of sewing (plus, I wouldn't be able to bring it on a plane these days anyway, I am sure...)

So what else should I do???

i always bring knitting. i usually finish a half a sock on long plane rides, i did on the times i have flown to australia.

i also stock up on tabloid magazines about celebrities. oh and some cosmo mags. i also bring my laptop, and i watch a few TV shows i have on my harddrive.

another option- drink yourself silly!

Bring a laptop or portable DVD player with lots of movies. Also, bring some Tylenol PM so you can force yourself to sleep. I went to India last year and it was 26 hours of flying so I learned you need the help!

it is a 24 plane ride, start drinking the first 6 hours or so. pass out for a few hours, wake up and you will be good to go! a long flight like that and a hangover will surely shake off in no time!

when i fly home to the philippines to visit, it's about a 22 hour flight. believe it or not, i just sleep the whole time. one time, i completely missed food for the entire flight because no one wanted to wake me up! i always bring magazines and a portable dvd player but usually don't end up doing anything with them. i get bored easily and when i'm bored, i sleep!

I flew to Thailand last year. The plane that we were on was equipped for the long flight. Each seat had it's own TV with about 12 channels. Each channel had a different movie or program that was on a loop.

We also brought on board with us: travel scrabble, yathzee, travel battle ship and a deck of cards - this was in addition to the usual books and magazines, and some tylenol PM.

Also remember to bring a sleeping mask - it will really help if you want to doze off. You can can also pick up an inflatable travel pillow at Duane Reade.

i have absolutely no clue. that is the exact reason i wont even fly to hawaii. i think i have ADHD or somehting b/c i cant tolerate sitting for that long especially with nothing to do. that is why we are going to disney...3 hour flight and ur there.

Also make sure to wear comfortable shoes like flip flops....I flew to Korea (18 hrs) and my feet swelled from being in a sitting position for so many hours

For a flight that long make sure you buy travel socks! They are special socks that apply pressure to your legs to help blood flow. Drink lots of water, and get up out of your seat every few hours and walk around the plane. I flew 17 hours to Australia last year, and doing those things really helped.

As for keeping yourself busy, after the wedding some sleep will be in order, but some magazines and travel size games will be helpful as well.

Such great ideas, ladies - reading materials are definitely in order - we are going to HM 2 months after the wedding, so thank yous will be done - but that IS a good idea!

I'll talk to FH about a laptop or PSP - perhaps buy one with some wedding money -

I may sleep a little, but I am not much of a nap person - way too much energy and yes - ADHD!!!

Walking around is a definite - and don't think FH and I havent discussed the mile high option!

I've flown to Asia and Hawaii many times and these are some things I've done which has helped alot:

1. Sleep as little as possible the night before your trip so you'll be really tired and forced to sleep on the plane.

2. Bring inflatable pillow for a more comfy sleep.

3. Bring a portable dvd, gaming player or laptop to keep you occupied. Make sure to bring a extra batteries. I bought a light Dell laptop on my trip to Japan and it really helped immensely having it to pass time or just to do research of local sites and sounds at the hotels.

4. Some magazines to browse through, or just use the ones supplied by the airline.

5. Sit on the aisle seats so you can walk about anytime you get restless legs

6. Try to grab seats at the rear of the plane 'cus there's more chances of empty seats next to you. FH and I usually get the 3 seats in the back and if the empty seat next to us happen to be empty we take turns sleeping in a stretched position.

7. Eat well before you board so you don't have to wake up to eat, it's harder to sleep when you're interrupted so often!

8. Sleeping pills or those drowsy cold medicine do help knock you out. :)

9. Bring those noise-cancelling airphones 'cus you know every flight will have at least one crying baby/toddler. :P

That's all I can think of for now. :)
