Did you do any wedding planning before you actually officially got engaged (ie: before you got the e-ring)?

Nope. IMHO, I don't like it. I know I'll probably get a lot of flack for saying so- but I find it incredibly presumptuous.
ETA: Just to clarify- in my opinion, if someone has asked you to marry them and you are actively planning your wedding and you don't have an engagement rign- you're still engaged. I don't like it when a bride-to-be (or in some rare cases, the groom-to-be) assumes they are going to be proposed to soon and begin looking into things. I think that's something that should be done with your fiance, not alone!

Kinda couldn't agree more...plus, I think planning and immersing yourself in wedding goodness is one (only one) of the joys of being engaged! Its part of what makes the time so special!

Us too!!! We went to Tiffany like 2 years before we got engaged to do a little shopping and he was like 'Let's look at the erings!'

YES.... so far I have a lot booked... no bling on my finger yet, but thats okay! Its not about the 'ring' And i have a feeling my ring is being made as we speak LOLOLOL
we have been together for just about 4 years, we know we wanna get married next year and decided to start booking so that we get the vendors we wanted... I wanted a winter wedding, in december and didnt wanna wait until 2012...
So - yes, I have started my planning and not officially engaged yet!
Not many people know anything about it yet.... Ill wait to share the news!
i didnt book anything, and he proposed but has not gotten my ring back from jeweler yet ( we are making it from diamonds from my grandmothers's rings)
I know exactly what I want, and didnt want to wait either. we know we are getting married and I wanted as much time as possible to get things paid off and planned out.
for me its not about the ring either, as he has already asked me to be his wife over and over again

No planning before the ring.... actually I didn't start really planning until a year after the engagement, but that's because it's a long one!
