Any advice?

Any advice?

We are looking to make our first home purchase and we are thinking about a 2 bedroom co-op in Great Neck. People have told us it is a great area (and we loved it when we went to look) but that co-ops don't appreciate as well as a house and that instead we should wait until we can buy a home instead of a co-op.

Does anyone know of how co-ops in Great Neck have appreciated over the past few years?

We saw a house or two in Lynbrook that we could afford but I heard the school district in Great Neck was even better. Any advice?

Co ops appreciate a lot and it is always better to own vs rent. But if you think you can buy a house in Great neck b/4 2 years then I guess you should wait for the house. I believe you have to pay capital gains tax if you sell b/4 2 years. Check on this though.

Lynbrook schools are excellent. If you like the town I advise you to buy a house there vs. a 2 bedroom co op in Great Neck.

Either way you will make money.

You do not have to pay capital gains if you roll the profits directly into a new home.

Thanks for the advice- We're going to go driving through Lynbrook this weekend and look around!
