Any brides 35+ who feel like their friends don't care.

Any brides 35+ who feel like their friends don't care.

I guess this really pertains to any age. I'm 38, its my first wedding and my friends don't seem to care. Most of my friends have kids and are leading different lives then me. I'm only engaged 3 weeks and I feel like basically none of them are that excited. One friend that I've lost touch with a little, but have known for 20 years, return my phone call when I left a message that I got engaged with an email with just a few words. Today, I call my friend that I've known for 25 years who's daughter is my godchild and I was her m.o.h. and it was like a bother. I'm not one of those people who will focus every conversation around my engagement/wedding. I don't know maybe I'm P.M.S. ing a little and feeling sorry for myself.

I know what you're saying. My FH is 42, I'm 33... the majority of my closest friends are actually more like the bitter, in a bad relationship or not in a relationship so they're a bit cold to me and DO NOT want to hear about the wedding. I feel bad even talking to them about it because I don't want to hurt them - they all really WANT to be married/have kids. etc.. and they're all 34-37 so I understand.

Well we are all very happy for you!! I feel like some people may act that way and I'm 31. Don't even give it a second thought! They probably don't even realize (unfortunately)

I agree-I'm thrilled for you that you found the love of your life! So what, if it took you a little longer than some of your friends.

They will come around. We are all here for you!

I don't think you're wrong to feel upset. I'm 32 and while most of my friends are married, a few aren't and one is getting married 6 mos after me. I too feel like the ones who have been through it years ago, and the one's who have no one in their lives, at times seem a bit put off by my talking about the wedding, even if it's in response to them asking about it! The philosophy I've adopted is to realize that no one else is going to care about my wedding as much as FH and I. Luckily, I've met some really good people through LIW who have been nothing but supportive because we're all going through this together. Don't be sad because other's can't find it in themselves to be happy for you. Just enjoy this time and everything it brings with it. We're all here for you!

Honestly, I don't have that problem. While some people may be happy for you, they may not want to know about the details of your wedding.

I usually let them ask about my plans first.

But like other brides will tell you. Nobody really cares or WANTS to remember wedding planning like you do.

Then you do have indeed people who don't want to hear it. You then have to ask yourself if they care about you not just if they care about your wedding.

Definately have those feelings, all my friends are married already and most with kids
Right after we announced our engagement My best friend who is also my FSIL announced she was pregnant with 1st child so i was totally forgotten. of course i was thrilled for her but would have liked a few moments to bask in the glow, oh well

I totally sympathize with you here, you're not PMSing!

I'm in my 30's and most of my friends and family are either married, having babies or still looking for 'the one'.

The ones who are married aren't exactly recommending it, the ones with kids are too busy to bother, they have been there and done that. The ones who aren't married don't wanna hear it 'cus they are my age and still looking...

So yeah, I understand where you're coming from. Realize this is your special day and here's your chance to throw a great wedding and remind them how wonderful getting married is gonna be or should be! :D

I totally understand, I'm 37. This is my second wedding so my friends REALLY dont want to hear it. They were in volved in my first big wedding and now I'm doing it again.....I'm sure they think I'm crazy but I 'm not having a BP for that reason. I feel they have already done it for me years ago. We are just having a BM & MOH, but still a big wedding with all the frills. This is FH first wedding and he deserves a big deal. We both do. SO I'm not asking anything from them.
We are happy and thats all that matters......Keep your chin-up

I feel you. I am 35 going on 36 and FH is 44. Alot of friends and family who ARE married but didn't have a big 'to do' are showing some hate. The ones that are single are trying not to show as much hate, but I understand. It comes with the territory. My cousin, who was my best friend and has been with her boyfriend 10 yrs, was not very happy when I got engaged and set a date. She saw me go through all of my dating horror stories so you would assume she would be ecstatic, but she wasn't. We weren't even on speaking terms until recently. Oh well, such is life!

I'm in the same age bracket, but I really don't think it is an age specific problem. These boards are flooded with girls complaining about their friends/BP etc that just don't care. I have two happily married BP members and one twice divorced (one amicable, one completely miserable) BP member. FH has two happily married BP members, one not so happily married BP member and one who is avoiding a process server so his wife can't get a divorce. NONE of them are especially excited, although if I had to rate the girls vs. the guys I would say his are more excited for him than mine are for me.

As for my perpetually single friends - I have spoken to them all exactly ONCE after they found out I was engaged.

I agree. I don't think it's an age problem necessarily.

I know exactly how you feel, I was really upset the other day when I found out that my bf & bm had no intention of coming to my bridal shower. Although im only 29, I feel like all my friends are having babies this year, so that's all that matters. I wish she could just remember all I did for wedding as I was MOH, she not making my Engagement party, shower, or Batchelorette party....Guess I should be happy that she said she's coming to the wedding.
