Its official, we are canceling our RH. Although we both love it, it is really far and inconvenient for us and our guests, and I do not love the room we have.
I am aware of the Suffolk Law. I was just wondering if anybody had experience canceling with suffolk RH. If I should call first or just write the letter. I don't know why, but I'm nervous!

Re: any brides cancel CLM?
My FH is bringing home the contract today so i can read exactly what it says. I think it says everything except $500.00 for book-keeping fees. Which is absoulte BS if you ask me. I hope the law covers that ridiculous language

OKAY! so my contract says 'cancellations received more than six (6) months proor to the contracted function fate entitles Lessee to receive a credit for all deposits actually paid, less a $500 bookkeeping and expense fee.
Uhhhh, does Suoffol law trumph this?

Yes, Suffolk County law trumps the contract provision. You're entitled to everything back minus $100. Do not settle for less.
You need to notify them ASAP via certified mail and save all receipts, etc.

I've never cancelled CLM, but I cancelled Sandcastle. I wrote them a letter and send it certified mail/return receipt, they never responded back & we eneded up loosing our $500 deposit.
Make sure you find another place that has your wedding date, unless your flexable w/ dates!!! GOod luck!!
May i ask, why did you cancel the sandcastle? Thats my number #1 so far.

Re: any brides cancel their RH
We canceled and they said because we had a food tasting we couldnt get anything back. The dep was to pay for the tasting. Was a $500.00 dep and tasting for 6. I think it was BS but couldnt do anything about it. They should have told us upfront that if we canceled after the tasting we wouldnt get it back.

Re: any brides cancel their RH
I cancelled at East Wind a few months ago. I called first and had to sign paperwork cancelling, that point I also wrote a letter cancelling and quoted suffolk catering law (which trumps their contract) asking for my full deposit minus the 100 dollars (which I believe is also in the law) I then mailed it return recepit the next day. When they did not respond for 2 weeks I called and was told that they would not be refunding and I could contact an attorney. So we called FH family attorney and he wrote them a letter. They did not respond to the first one but once he sent them a second one i got a call saying the check was in teh mail. I think he only charged us liek 75 bucks.
I have copies of the letter I wrote if you want a reference. Or youc an just use what I wrote adn change it. I also photocopied everything and included a copy of my contract with the letter I sent.

i canceled CLM just over 6 months before my wedding and didnt get my deposit back. I even had my attorney send them a certified letter, numerous emails. And i really needed the money. It was right before my dad died of cancer and they were struggling hardcore.

Re: any brides cancel their RH
I canceled my original RH, in suffolk, about 9 months before the wedding. i got all the $ back. i'm thinking they probably didn't want me running my mouth off about what I went through with them, so it was quick and painless!

We canceled. We called first and then emailed to have it in writing.
We had a diff situation tho, it was in our contract that we could cancel if we didn't like food tasting and thats just what happened.

it's a matter of how far you're willing to push them until they back down. they prob take the harda$$ approach bc many people will give up just to be done wtih it. i wasn't about to do that.
