we had our card box behind our table at the wedding.
When we got home, and we literally had to cut it open with a razor blade, so i really dont think anyone could of taken envelopes from it.
We have some gifts missing from people that wouldnt show up without gifts. They even came to the brunch the next day, and they didnt say that they forgot it or its in the mail.
If this has happened to anyone else how long did you wait to say something? or did you not say anything?
just wondering what the proper way to go about this would be
eta; my biggest fear is that it was stolen or taken by someone else, and that there could of been cash in it. i woudl be really upset if that was the case

Re: Any brides have missing gifts?
I hope that they just were planning on mailing it to you after or something... do you think it could have been taken at the hall?

Re: Any brides have missing gifts?
We had a few of these. We did end up getting a lot of gifts in the mail during the weeks right after the wedding. There are still a few who havent given and havent said anything about it. I am not going to mention it to them (not sure how you'd even begin that conversation), just going to write it off.

You absolutely shouldn't say anything. That's like asking them to re-give you a gift that they already gave you. If they wrote a check hopefully they will figure out that you did not cash it, and inquire themselves. Since you are missing a few (not just one) something definately happened to the envelopes.. are you positive they handed them to you and that they went right into the box? I was at a friend's wedding and at the end of the night the bus boy was caught rolling up the table cloth over an envelope! He did it on purpose hoping it had cash. That's why I always write checks now. I've known people to have lost 1 envelope at weddings, and my friend lost hers at a communion b/4 she could give it to the family.

something like that can be real tricky to deal with. if they didnt give something you dont want to flat out ask about it because then they'll be embarassed. i had about 10 people not give us anything, at least that i know of. im not even going to bother asking.

The reason i feel like it could of been taken, is because this is a very wealthy family, the father is a very well known surgeon. They sent us a very expensive engagement gift. Something just doesnt add up
Im not saying its the hall, but im thinking it could be someone, I agree its a very awkward thing to ask someone...so i guess we will wait it out. This is not my side of the family so i cant really ask.

Re: Any brides have missing gifts?
I wouldnt say anything to them. I had about 4 gifts mailed to me in weeks following the wedding. Sometimes people forget the card or the check or whatever. And i have heard that etiquette allows one year to give a wedding gift. Also , it is just that- a gift- people dont have to give one but if you ask about it then it seems like it was expected. JMO

SInce this is not your side of the family. I would have DH mention it to his parents and see what they say. I know you don't want to look like you are looking for a gift, but if they wrote you a chekc and it didn't make it home to you I am sure they would want to know so they could stop payment on it.

I hate to say this but some people just don't give gifts - even the ones that you think will give a gift can sometimes surprise you.
I think you should wait it out as well - at least a couple of weeks.
good luck

Re: Any brides have missing gifts?
wait it out and see what happens - how many people do you think came and didnt give a gift? if you are missing like 10-20 envelopes from people that you think you would have gotten a gift from there is a good chance that they got lost
after our eparty we went through our list and checked off who we received gifts from so we would know who to send a thank you card too....while doing this i realized we were missing one gift - and i remember that person giving an envelope - i was so upest because i didnt know how to approach the subject and i was almost 100% that i saw a card (but a card also doesnt mean a gift is in it either) but i was so worried that someone stole it....well the next day we went back and looked everywhere for it - through the garbage, on the property, EVERYWHERE....it turns out the card was given to my FSIL by accident, someone found it during the party, saw that it was a Winne the Pooh card and thought it was for my nephew (his 1st bday was a week before our party) but i was so upset thinking someone may have thrown it away or stole it - because i would hate if i gave someone a gift and they never got it, thought that i didnt give one and it ended up in the wrong hands or a garbage....
see what happens - they may ask why you didnt cash their check and then you can say that you never got it....hopefully if they gave a gift it wasnt cash...

Do you still send a thank you in that case- like thanks for spending our day with us?

DH told his parents, they are aware, i just know if i gave a gift, and the couple never got it, i would feel awful...
My DH always wants to give cash but i never let him cause i know how things get misplaced or thrown out or worse yet stolen...so i always give a check. I called the catering hall to see if anything was left behind, of course they said no. I think there are about 3 cards missing.

if you had to cut the box open then it is probably unlikely that someone else went in2 the box and took something out. sometimes people just 4get to bring a gift. since your wedding was a couple days ago you should just wait it out and see what happens, they'll probably be in the mail to you shortly.

Very tough situation! You CAN NOT say anything to them! That is just very embarassing for them and makes you look bad too.
You can only hope that if it was a check and they see that you didn't cash it they will bring it up to DH's parents. Definitely send a thank you card.
I remember my aunt telling me a story about a sweet sixteen she went to for her friend's daughter. My aunt had forgotten to put the check she wrote in the card and the next day after the party the girl called my aunt and said I got your card but where's my gift! Not cool!
