we had our card box behind our table at the wedding.
When we got home, and we literally had to cut it open with a razor blade, so i really dont think anyone could of taken envelopes from it.
We have some gifts missing from people that wouldnt show up without gifts. They even came to the brunch the next day, and they didnt say that they forgot it or its in the mail.
If this has happened to anyone else how long did you wait to say something? or did you not say anything?
just wondering what the proper way to go about this would be
eta; my biggest fear is that it was stolen or taken by someone else, and that there could of been cash in it. i woudl be really upset if that was the case

We had a few of these. We did end up getting a lot of gifts in the mail during the weeks right after the wedding. There are still a few who havent given and havent said anything about it. I am not going to mention it to them (not sure how you'd even begin that conversation), just going to write it off.
Do you still send a thank you in that case- like thanks for spending our day with us?
I'm going to...just to thank them for sharing our day, not mentioning anything about a gift.
NOT that I'm expecting gifts from people, but the thing that gets me is both of these guests got married in the last few years, and both got gifts from me....

This is a touchy subject because how do you ask these people for gifts... UNLESS you say 'dont be too alarmed, but not sure if you put a gift in the box or not, or if it was taken from you. I just want you to know that I didnt see it' It could be that someone took it...you never know.
Or you just dont say anything and wait until they send it to you via mail. I heard that is common these days.
(i wouldnt do that...but just saying I have been hearing this is done)
They will also know if they wrote a check and it wasnt cashed.

Re: Any brides have missing gifts?
Honestly, since no one is REQUIRED to bring a wedding gift (even though it's commonly expected) you should not say anything.
I had about 10 couples come empty handed to our wedding. We swore that cards were stolen - I mean even someone from one of our IMMEDIATE families didn't give a card so we thought for sure something was up.
Well, guess what. Those 10 couples really DID NOT give anything - nothing was lost, nothing stolen. Two couples sent us small things from our registry after the wedding. Another 3 couples said they would get us our gift later. Another one came to celebrate my birthday and said she forgot my bday gift at home and also had our wedding gift so we should meet up so she could give it to us (she has since disappeared).
So, even though you think there's no way these people wouldn't give you a gift, you just never know. And some people DO send something after the wedding. So wait a bit. They technically have up to a year to send you a gift.
I would still send TY cards to everyone though. We were thrilled to have our loved ones celebrate our day with us - even if they came empty handed.

If you thank them for sharing in your day, they might just call and say, you didn't thank us for the gift, did you get it? I often do that when it's been a while and I haven't gotten a card - not really accusing them of not thanking me, of course, just making sure they got the gift.

Re: Any brides have missing gifts?
it is soooo tricky asking!! I was in a similar situation. by best friend gave us a acrd and when we got home and started opening them all, hers was already torn opened. And it was empty. So I had to actually call her and make sure she didn't put anything in it. Thank god it was her and not someone else!!! And thankfully she had't put anything in it. She sent a gift inthe mail a couple weeks later- she wanted to wait to send it after we were back from brazil. But it was still a little embarassing ahving to call and blantly ask her if she gave us money.

Yeah, that was kind of my thought too. In case it did get lost somehow.

Since it is on Lee's side, I'd tell his parents and ask them to figure out a way to find out. It's hard because you don't want to come off the wrong way but come on, these aren't people that WOULD possibly come empty-handed...they had to have been misplaced. Ask his parents to inquire in some way and do the dirty work for you! lol

That is so funny you mentioned that! I just got married too, and there are a handfull of people that didnt give anything, not even a card, and at first I thought they got misplaced, but now I wonder if they gave anything in the first place!
