Any Brides out there over 40?

Wondering about traditional things at reception. Like throwing the bouquet (all my friends are already married) Any ideas?

I cant remeber the last time I was at a wedding and they had the bouquet tossing. I know some people still do it, but from what I have seen most dont anymore unless maybe they are a very young bride. I am in my thirties and I am not having it.

Thanks, to be honest, I haven't been to a wedding in about 10 years. Yikes, I feel old.

Wow I was wondering the same!

All the weddings I have been to have the tossing, but all my friends are married too!! I am first time bride at 40!

Here's what I'm doing...

My friend did it in October, and I will do it as well...we're going to have the anniversary dance. All married couples will be invited to the dance floor, then the DJ asks all the couples who have been married for one day, please sit. Then one year or less, then under 5 years, and so on, until the couple married the longest remains on the floor. Then I will give them the throw away bouquet. I am in my 30s and there will only be about 3 or 4 unmarried couples attending. Good luck!

Gracejilly: saw your Mary's bridal post

Hi Gracejilly I saw your post on the vendor's board about Mary's bridal. They would not let me reply since I am not a vendor. I actually got a Mary's dress from Lynbrook Bridal on Sunrise highway. It was discontinued two days after I ordered it but thank god I got the one I wanted. Check them out. They do carry Mary's or they could prob. order it if you know the catalog number.

In your post you said, 'I actually got a Mary's dress from Lynbrook Bridal on Sunrise highway. It was discontinued two days after I ordered it but thank god I got the one I wanted. '

Suspiciously, the same thing happened to me at Lynbrook Bridal.

Really Hmmmmmmm, did you get the dress you ordered? They were wonderful there. I dealt with Rica and she helped a lot. My dress came out great but I was disappointed in my girl's dresses. They did not do the fittings correctly and thank god for my sister in law with needle and thread.

I ended up getting the sample. The alterations better be good or I will be a very unhappy bride.

Over 40..what I did..

I was 45 when I married for the second time last September. Had 75 guests for a Sunday afternoon wedding and reception. Wore a white wedding gown(didn't wear one at my first wedding in 1976..no comments please I know it was a long time ago),wore a veil (didn't do that the first time either),no garter or bouquet toss, but we made sure we had enough flowers so that everyone took some home. Had my son walk me down the aisle, my daughter as my maid of honor and my granddaughter as my flower girl. I had always wanted the dress up wedding with all the trimmings and although I was a little apprehensive about doing it at 45 I am so very very glad that I did. My day was perfect, everyone told me I looked beautiful and we all had a marvelous time. I have tons of fantastic memories and I wouldn't have changed a single minute of my day! Good luck!

I am so glad to hear from you guys. I have been worried about the dress too. I am 42 second wedding first in 1986, divorced 4 years later and single all this time. We are having the ceremony and reception at La Grange Inn. I was going to just get an evening dress, but you have encouraged me to do what I want. I want to be the bride. Thanks

gracejilly- do what you want..it's your day!!

I was a second time bride at 37, DH was never married before. I wore the dress (ivory, because it looked better) wore a tiara with a veil, but no blusher, and had my 8 year old son walk me down the aisle.

I didn't do the bouquet or garter toss because it was a personal oreference not to.

Do what makes you happy!!
