Do you know if you have to have a degree in education or just in the subject that you want to teach?
I'm thinking of applying to jobs at some Catholic schools, but I have my degree in English...not education.

My brother taught for years at a Catholic High School before becoming administration and he majored in philosophy and a minor in psychology. He taught- Spanish, English and computers

I applied to the Diocese of Rockville Centre and you do need a teaching degree. Its very difficult to find a teaching job- even in Catholic Schools. I have a Masters in Special Ed. and cant even get an interview in a catholic school, let alone a job.

Yah when I was in Catholic elementary/high school, there were teachers without teaching degrees. IDK if that changed though.

I agree. Its so hard getting jobs. You absolutely need an education degree and a teaching license. A masters is a plus too.

No you absolutely need a teaching degree and a teaching certificate. Some older people are grandfathered in or they are making them take coursework to finish the degree and become certified. In public schools, teachers are getting fired if they dont have the proper licensing. Catholic school is no different.
