Are there any past brides who did not do favors? Was their a negative reaction from guests? I dont know if this idea will go over too well with the in laws, but I am really NOT finding any affordable but Nice and useful favors that I like. I do like wine bottles- but they seem like they are going to cost a lot, and I do like chocolate, but still it can add up with a large wedding which we are having. My idea is to cut costs and not do favors...but I dont know if this is a good or bad idea

I actually LOVE the seed packets- have you seen them for cheaper than 4.50????
My sister got them for 2 dollars, I think. I can find out for you.
thank you!

I am doing the votive candle place cards which will also be the favors for my guests. You can get a bag of 100 votives from Michael's around 10 dollars and 4 for a dollar glass votive holders (when there is a sale). You will also neen to buy vellum to print out names. Overall this gift is a DIY and is really affordable.
FYI we were NOT going to give favors - just not our style. We have been to weddings with and without and for me it does not matter, I just care about watching the ceremony and celebrating with loved ones. We are only doing this because our place does not supply table cards and so we thought it was a cute idea.
I did not have favors. I didn't even think about it. I received no comments either way.

Re: Any past brides who did not do favors?
me and two of my aunts daughters are getting married within a year. the other day, my aunt, who has money to spare believe me, sat us all down and gave us some sage advice about wedding planning.
one of the things she said was to not stress favors. they are unnecessary to give and MOST people don't notice or care if they don't receive them.
if you really don't want to spend the cash, don't. I mean really, what can anyone say- that you were too cheap- after paying tens of thousands of dollars and inviting them to you wedding. please. even if they do, who cares! you shouldn't.

skip the favors!
take half of what you would have spent on them and get yourselves a nice side by side massage on the honeymoon.

We made a donation instead of favors. Everyone loved the idea. Honestly, I do notice if there are none, but I think that's just because I'm a recent bride. A few years ago, and a few years down the line, I probably wouldn't notice.

If you can't afford to do them than skip them. The last three weddings I've been to didn't have any and I didn't notice or care.

I do not plan on giving favors. As others have said, they more often than not get thrown in a drawer or the garbage. Also, I don't really understand why it is necessary to 'thank' your guests. I think saying a nice 'thank you' is good enough.

Re: Any past brides who did not do favors?
I did a donation in lieu of favors, and one of my SILs made chocolate calla lilies that she put at each place setting but other than that, no favor. I don't know if anyone saw the sign I had up about the donation, or if anyone missed getting an actual favor, nor do I care.
Don't worry about it!

Bad idea to have nothing at all for a favor. after spending thousands on the wedding, it seems cheap to not spend an extra few hundred. Do a donation to a charity. You can donate however much you have in your budget. and they will give you a note card or something to give to each guest to explain that a donation has been made. I have been to 6 weddings this summer and received donation favors at 4 of them.

don't judge. you don't know what everyone's budget is to say that another few hundred won't put them over the edge. not everyone is fortunate to have someone paying for it. a lot of us are working DARN hard to afford our weddings.
if someone wants to think i'm cheap for not having a favor, then what kind of friend are they to me really if they're judging me? should i judge them based on the size of the check they gave me, or just be glad that i was blessed with their presence at my wedding???

I know I asked the question, BUT the way you came off is very judgemental...I am still deciding about giving or not giving favors, BUT there are brides on here that decided not to and who do not think that it is a bad idea... I respect your opinion but lets not judge others!

Re: Any past brides who did not do favors?
We are not doing favors and I don't feel bad about it. For us, it's just not in the budget. I just finished stuffing and sealing 250 invitations, we have over 500 people being invited. And with that many people, We definately needed a place to save some cash. If I could bring in food from the outside, I would just make up little packets of tulle with jordan almonds and/or chocolate kisses, but because we are having a strict glatt kosher wedding, we cannot bring outside food in.

I guess I am but I'm not doing favors. My favors/place cards are combined into one. I purchased champagne glasses decorated them, put a name and date bow and their names and table number on it.
They are so cute, fit my theme, but at the same time very inexpensive.

I wouldn't worry about it, I think it's a good way to save money by not giving favors. I might not be doing favors either, but if I do, I'm making CD's. I'm putting our wedding song, and other family members wedding songs on it. I'm only making one per couple to save $.

Re: Any past brides who did not do favors?
I was debating between favors and a donation then found that my new job matches all donations 100%. That pretty much made up my mind.
Some people do look for favors but I don't think they'll hold it against you if you don't have them. You have to look at your crowd and decide whats important to them. Mine would rather have a chocolate fountain so thats where that money is going... :)

Re: Any past brides who did not do favors?
I haven't been to a wedding where there wasn't a favor, with exception of donations to charities of choice by the bride and groom, but I still see that as a favor. I wouldn't think twice of it, if I didn't come home with a favor, but for me personally, I still wish to do something.

Re: Any past brides who did not do favors?
We went to a wedding last year without favors. They did a donation in memory of an uncle who passed away. We will be doing the same (maybe the 5 almonds, but that's it.) They had a little scroll with a picture, prayer, and explaination neatly tied up for each of us. We did not know about it until we got there. Money was better spent and no one missed the favors. Remember, it's YOUR day!
