Okay... I'm a smoker and I'd REALLY like to quit before the wedding. Does anyone have any success stories, suggestions, motivational tools... anything at all??? I'd really appreciate it!

I was a two pack a day smoker. Quit in feb. 2008, cold turkey, and have not touched one since. Best resource for me was the website Quitnet.com
Free to join. Helped me through it, and still does.

I would also love to quit, but I'm waiting until I move back home (to save for the wedding). My parents don't know that I smoke, so I really wont' be able to puff a cig whenever I feel like it.
I'm just nervous, b/c all my friends smoke. I dont' know what I'm gonna do when we all hang out on weekends. If I'm going down, I gotta bring one of them with me

Re: Any smokers/former smokers?
I smoked for 5 years and quit about 10 times in those 5 years because something would always cause me to go back. Right now I just have them occasionally. I smoked like 10-12 cigarettes a day and I found it to be helpful that when I was trying to quit, I would cut one cigarette out every week. Eventually I was down to just 4 cigarettes a day and then I stopped but it only lasted maybe a year. It's tough. I think it always will be because I'll always be a smoker at heart. And gum definitely did help when I did quit. I went through like 4 packs of gum a week!

january 7th was 3 years for me. i am a freak of nature though, so i cant give advice. i quit, simply because i didnt have money to buy a pack of cigarettes, then next thing i knew, i went a day and a half with out smoking. then i turned it into a competition... seeing how long i can go without one... and poof... i quit

Re: Any smokers/former smokers?
So many people have given great advice on this...I quit cold turkey. I 'quit' many times before that, but I was doing a lot of lying to FH about it, but he didn't believe me. It was a rough patch in our relationship. Finally, one day I woke up and said, 'Am I really going to lose this guy over a cigarette?' I haven't smoked since. I think the key is that you really have to want it. Now, I don't think about it at all!!! And I LOVE how my hair and clothes smell now as opposed to before! GOOD LUCK!

I think the best advice I can give...is you have to REALLY REALLY want it. If you don't, you won't put 100% into quitting and its not gonna happen.

Re: Any smokers/former smokers?
My mom quit smoking about 2 and a half years ago by using Chantix. She was smoking for over 25 years and was able to quit after a month and half of taking those pills.
