I seem to be able to get better pricing when looking things up online through jet blue and expedia. Has anyone else booked their own Honeymoon.? What are the advantages/disadvantages?

Re: Anybody book their HM on their own
I decided to book part of my honeymoon through Costco (airfare and some hotels) and the other part on my own.
we are doing 3 weeks in australia/new zealand. i got better prices on my own and that way i had control over which hotels we were going to. We did the airfare through a travel agent b/c we didn't want to have to pay right away. it took alot of work/research on tripadvisor.com. a TA will do everything for you.
if you go through a travel agent you don't have to pay right away. expedia requires immediate payment.
good luck!

Yes! I looked at beachdestinations.com, allinclusiveoutlets.com, vacations-to-go.com and discount-all-inclusive.com...they were all relatively close.
I went on Jetblue.com as an afterthought to see if I could get a good price on a direct flight (all the other sites offer flights with stop-overs) and I noticed they have vacation packages!!
Turns out they had the best price by about $300- with direct flights! So, we booked through them.
Forgot to mention that it has to be paid in full.

We're booking on our own. We went to Liberty first, but it turns out I get a better deal through my job at the hotels we want to stay at. I'm not looking forward to doing airfare to hawaii (with stops and inter-island flights in hawaii), but I'm sure we can handle it.

Re: Anybody book their HM on their own
We booked our own - a week in Maui, and a week in Kuaui. It does take more time and research (if you're as thorough as us and insistant to have the 'perfect' HM ) But in the end, it was cheaper then going through an agency.

I book all my trips on Orbitz.com, without a problem. I think FH and I will be booking our HM on our own.

Re: Anybody book their HM on their own
I booked my hotel with my points from my Starwoods/Sheraton AMEX card. I plan to book my airfare with JetBlue as soon as the tickets for PR go on sale... so all we are really paying for is airfare. Then when we get there we will pay for food and a car rental.
Starwoods does the honeymoon registry through weddingchannel.com, where guests can pay for things like dinner on the beach or couples massage....

Re: Anybody book their HM on their own
We did all our own research before going to a travel agent, (wanted to make sure we were getting the best price) Anywho, we booked with the Agent, for a couple of reasons: she saved us a couple of hundred, we were able to do a HM registry, #3 upgrade, upgrade, upgrade! Travel Agents give certain places so much business that they can get you an upgrade! They mention to your hotel/cruise/whatever that it is your HM and usually can get you 1-2 upgrades. All in all I feel we made the right decision. GL HTH

Re: Anybody book their HM on their own
We looked at doing things both ways. It was slightly cheaper ($100 or $200) to book on our own. However, we were booking Jamaica during Hurricane season and decided to go through a TA with cancel anytime insurance. That way if the weather looks bad, we can cancel our trip, get all the money back and the TA will help us re-book whereever we want to go.

I booked mine on expedia...its cheaper because you dont have to pay a percentage to the travel agent.... we initially went to a travel agent then online and got the EXACT same package for $1400 less!

Re: Anybody book their HM on their own
we booked with a travel agent...we were able to get the same cruise for less plus we felt more comfortable planning a large (and $$$) trip with an agent. We booked a mediterranean cruise plus days in rome after. What I suggest is looking up the trips you are thinking of on your own-get some ideas of prices and then go to an agent and see what they can do for you

We did the same thing. A TA was quoting us at least $1,000 more for the same exact thing!

Re: Anybody book their HM on their own
We booked our HM through Liberty Travel instead of doing it online because we wanted to discuss our options with them- we worked with a very helpful and honest TA. We also were able to pick out the building our room would be in since I wanted to be closest to the beach. We also purchased insurance in case of an emergency.
Good luck!

Re: Anybody book their HM on their own
We are booking on our own. So far we have booked the hotels and airfare and we purchased our own travel insurance. I love planning trips and got better deals than going through a TA. We plan to book our day trips either through the hotels or on our own as well. Good Luck!

Re: Anybody book their HM on their own
i booked our cruise all by myself. and i used points for airfare and found a cute hotel to stay at before going on the ship and rental car.
I think it really depends on how much work you want to put into it. I like researching and planning travel so i enjoyed doing it.
