Anybody did an afternoon reception?

Anybody did an afternoon reception?

What was your experience having an afternoon reception? How was the atmosphere? would it be different from an evening wedding.

We are going to have a cocktail hour and sit-in dinner of four courses. The reception starts at 1.30-6.30pm. Is that much food for an afternoon.

ive been to many afternoon bar mitzvahs and the party atmosphere was the same! we are having an afternoon wedding and are doing everything the same as an evening wedding.

i'm also doing a day wedding and, although i've never been to one, i assume there's a different 'feeling' than that of an evening wedding. knowing our friends and family, once the drinks start flowing no one will know the difference.

my reception will start at 1:30 and I was worried about this too -- I've never been to an afternoon wedding where there were windows and light streams in. I was worried that it wouldn't feel like a 'party' and no one would dance but the brides on this site who have done it say that it was fine and they had a great time.
My RH has these large bay windows and there will be a crazy amount of light.

I've been to a couple of day weddings and the atmosphere and party has been the same as if it were an evening wedding. You have nothing to worry about

Our CH room has lots of big open windows and also outdoor tables and grounds, but the reception room is darker. I love light and sunshine so I dont think you can go wrong either way

edit: i meant reception

What about the food. The menu is the same for the afternoon as for the evening. However people definitely do eat less than in the evening. But my CH has only one set of menu. Did you get a different menu for the afternoon?

FH wasn't crazy about the idea at first. He comes from Argentina where there is no such thing as day weddings and where the typical reception ends at sunrise.. but we couldn't afford a saturday night wedding.

our reception starts at 2-6pm - CH 1-2 - im sure that once the drinks start getting passed and the DJ is pumping the music the only difference will be if daylight is coming thru the windows or not - im sure its going to be treated the same - foodwise as well

This give me more assurance, because I am going back and forth between the evening and afternoon wedding. Driving my FI nuts. Budget wise is better to go with the afternoon, but I was worried that the afternoon will be less fun. Thank you girls

im having an afternoon reception and actaully wanted it for the mere fact that theres beautiful grounds to walk around that you wouldnt be able to see in the dark...

ive also been to an afternoon wedding... and everyone was def dancing, drinkin, eatin, and having a great time! it was actually pretty wild... i think it will all depend on the type of crowd you'll be having that will make or break the afternoon recpetion

I too am having a day wedding and well....you gotta do what you gotta do! To be honest...I am happy about the natural light in our room...will make for awesome pictures! (I am big on photography) We are having a band so I hope everyone will be out of their seats all day! And finally our cocktail hour starts at 11:30! Woowee....it may be weird for some...but I dont think I care!!!

Our reception was 12-5. It was perfect. Our pictures came out GREAT, people partied, we had an afterparty. Everything about it was perfect.

See my review.
