Re: anybody else upset about losing their last name?

Tami91402,

I'm 100% with you!!! I too have the most common hispanic last name but it's a part of me so I'm a little upset about losing it. I too am going to have a TOTALLY 100% Irish last name come October which I'm not too thrilled about becuase with my first name and my new last name, I'm going to sound like an 89 year old lady!!! My name sounds like I should have a cane or a walker with me at all times!!!! Yesh!!!! Why can't MEN take our last names?! Who thought of this 'tradition?' It stinks!!! Either way, if I don't take it my FH will be very hurt so I don't have much of a choice.

Re: anybody else upset about losing their last name?

I'm just pissed because I am keeping the same initals.. I'm changing my name, but remaining a 'B' and I joke b/c I have nothing with my initals on it because some day I figure I wouldn't be able to use it... and well, shucks now I could.. lol

I figure my transition is the easiest b/c the names are somewhat similar! But it's though to write in script because there are two r's next to each other.. arh!

Re: anybody else upset about losing their last name?

I am actually thrilled about taking my FI's last name...it's a nice Irish name complete with a 'Mc' at the beginning of it. My current name, while not hard to spell or pronounce, has been mangled my entire life. Further, my biological father was MIA my whole life...and it is his name that I have currently. He comes from a family of abusive freaks, drug addicts and schizophrenics that I don't even know, or have chosen to have nothing to do with. My step-father raised me and I always adored him and thought for the longest time that I would make his last name my middle name when I got married (because my Christian middle name is Ruth, which I despise). However, in the last three years, my step-father has passed away and my biological father has reappeared, sober and ready to be my friend. He is also helping to contribute to my wedding - relief that is sorely needed and very appreciated. So I am very glad to be 'rid' of my biological name and to be part of a large loving Irish clan....but now I worry that taking my step-father's name as my middle name will hurt my biological father, as we try and rebuild a relationship. Any thoughts?

Re: anybody else upset about losing their last name?

Im also looking forward to changing my last name. My father was part German so I have a last name which Im really not to crazy for. My new last name will be Irish. I also see it as me and my FH will be starting a new life together and changing my name will be part of it.

Re: anybody else upset about losing their last name?

I'm actually excited to change my name too. I feel like I'm beginning a new life and I'll have a new name to go with it. I guess it helps that my FH's name is really nice, short and sweet. It's definitely going to be a bit strange at first but I'm looking forward to it...
