My DH and I were talking about it lately, and we might consider sometime in the future, when we have children. I guess it would be nice to get away form NY, send the kids to a good school that doesn't cost a fortune and live in a nice house that doesn't cost half a million! But also, it's such a scarry thing to do! Here we already have jobs, friends, family, we are ina familiar environment! We would have to find jobs first wherever it is we woudl be moving to! how do you look for jobs and settle in a home across country? Please, share you experiences with me! Thank you!

Re: Anybody ever moved to a different state?
we moved to NJ (morristown) in february. although its not far, it has been a bit tough. i have no girlfriends out here yet. some work buddies, and fh's family (whom i adore!), and some of my extended family members, but i miss my mom & stepdad & my girlfriends. it would be nice to go out with the girls for dinner or shopping once in awhile. most of my friends are in the city.
its a bit lonely, but worth it. we have better jobs here. we own a house. & this area is gorgeous. very different from what we could have afforded on LI. i'm excited to be here & raise my family here.

Re: Anybody ever moved to a different state?
Well I moved to MD for 4 years for college- don't know if that counts. I liked it but it was MUCH too slow paced. But it was a great experience to live someplace other than NY. I think it slowed me down a bit. Then I moved to NJ after moving back home to LI. It's not that far from NY but still different. It's hard- I miss my family and friends- I had to find new doctors, banks, etc... but it also made me more independent. I think it's a great idea- nothing is permanent. If you like it, great- if you don't you can always come back to NY!

Re: Anybody ever moved to a different state?
I moved from Philadelphia to Long Island 4 years ago -- and it was a huge change! I liked Long Island but missed everyone back home... Phila is like a little ' town' even though it is a big city -- also its a lot cheaper. It took me a while -- but I made friends up here and now I am loving it more and more -- the beaches, and fun things to do.. It takes a while to get used to a new place and make a new circle of friends.. But when it happens --- its wonderful.
