anybody sad its their last x-mas at home

Original post by Espo22

it hit fh on x-mas eve...he played his favorite x-mas song the david bowie/bing crosby version of drummer boy which he always plays on x-mas...we were sitting around and they were talking about old x-mas memories and it hit FH...His comp room is next to the upstairs living room and he sat in there for a few mins just sad thinking about it being his last x-mas at home, which is the home he has lived in his whole life...he even went to the downstairs living room alone bc thats where they always used to have the x-mas tree and celebrate with his family but only the last few years they've been doing it upstairs, so he sat downstairs alone for a bit. Me, fh and his brother were looking at old x-mas pics of them when they were kids...i felt so bad bc i can only imagine how he feels, i moved so i dont have this whole thing about leaving the only house ive known. He was sweet and started talking about us hosting x-mas next year and excited about that but its also hard to think it was his last x-mas at home.

I went through these feelings about a week before x-mas when i decorate the x-mas tree which i do every year.

anybody else get this way?

my last christmas at home was sad - i moved out the following Feb and my parents moved to Florida. It was really sad b/c it was our last Christmas together as a family. i haven't spent a Christmas with them for the last 3 years. i think if i just moved out and my parents were still in NY i wouldnt be sad. i understand why people get upset but they can still go to their old house and see their family. i can't

awww i am so sorry, that must be so hard

it is sad. at some point during christmas i always cry. i try to hold it in but i cant BUT i do have lots of good people to spend the day with like my FH and his family. Then we go see my aunts, uncles and cousins.......i still LOVE christmas time but it can be a little depressing when i think about how much i miss my parents and sister. its okay though. every year it gets a little easier! i miss my old house! its my dream to one day buy it when it goes back on the market

you're moving to florida though by your parents right? so next year will you be there for next x-mas?

yeah fh wants to buy his parents house when they decide to sell it, even his mom said he was crazy and she wants to make money off of it and she wouldn't if he bought bc theres no way she would sell it to him for as much as she could get from anybody else lol and she is actually splitting it with fh and his brother so he will get 1/3 of how much they sell it for but part of him would LOVE to buy his house lol

This Christmas was doubly 'sad' for my family. It was my last Christmas at home and also my little sister is a senior in high school, so she will be at college next year. I think my Dad was more emotional about this holiday than anyone. How cute. Hugs for him

So sad : ( FH's sister just got married in August, (he has only one sister) so his mom and dad had to adjust to her not being there THIS Christmas...now next Christmas, both her kids will be gone.....imagine how sad we are feeling...our parents are probably feeling worse! I'm an emotional mess these days! lol

Yea Denise, FH has had a REALLY hard time with it this year....I think its been a little easier because his brothers are moving on too, but he kept talking about Christmas morning when he was young and how sad its going to be for his father when everyone's gone....I feel so bad, but that's life and part of growing up....I'm sad too but i know we'll have each other. Maybe its because I've lived in my own place for a while and he's always lived there....It is bittersweet though

i think the whole house thing does make a huge difference...i dont sit in my apartment now and have all these old memories so its a bit different...i already had to deal with the last x-mas in a house i grew up in now its just about leaving my mom behind, well not leaving her behind but you know what i mean. For somebody who has lived in just 1 house i think its sad for them to leave such a big part of them behind and leaving the only home theyve celebrate their holidays in

eventually we will move there. we have property there and we are going to have a house built after the wedding - just not sure how soon after. it depends on how much money we have saved and FH's job. he can transfer down there with his salary but we just have to wait until the timing is right. so at least i have that to look foward to!

Yea I definately agree...I think that's the hardest part for him, plus he HATES Island Park (that's where I live now)

I think what got him through is that he thinks we have a chance of celebrating Christmas in our OWN house next year....idk honestly...he's had a hard time separating anyway. I think he plans on being there alot because his studio is there, so he figures it won't be that severe of a separation....idk its going to be rough for him though, especially in the beginning. He still locks his bedroom door when he leaves

Not only was I like a little kid again yesterday, my mom and Step-Dad were too! I woke up to my mother singing up the stairs to me (Santa Claus came to town...come and get your gifts), but I went downstairs with my brother and saw that the two of them were on the couch with the plastic garbage bag, all ready to open up gifts. I got all choked up thinking that this is the LAST time I'm coming down the stairs, in my Christmas pjs to do this : ( We opened gifts and the last thing my mom gave me was a card with money saying, 'Here's alittle something...Merry last Christmas here wiht us' I started BALLING (which I'm doing now by the way).....so freakin' bittersweet!

it sounds like you are describing my house with my parents too...the garbage bag, etc...i def know how you feel...i have been thinking about this a lot lately and yesterday it really hit me...i of course am happy to be marrying FH but it certainly is bittersweet...i hope i stop feeling this way...i hope all of you do too

i have to admit it was my fault that fh got sad and thought about all this...we went to church first, which is the church we are getting married in and i freaked out saying OMG the next time we will be here we'll be getting married...then we're sitting in church and im like OMG this is the first place we will be as husband and wife, yeah i had a moment lol...but then later on i was like WOW its crazy that this will be your last x-mas at home, and this time next year we'll be celebrating x-mas at 'OUR' place, he was fine until i started saying all this

other than that though, fh always talks about moving and can't wait...he talks about where to move and how we're gonna do this and all that...he said hes more looking forward to getting past this time and just moving in already lol.

i totally felt that way last year! like--wow this is the last time i'm celebrating xmas as a single woman with my family!

I can relate, although we bought a house and had Christmas here, we usually have it at my dad's (where I've always lived) I got a little sad and then while we wre at church, I just can't believe how fast everything is happening...I feel a little anxious just talking about it..But I totally understand how he feels

Xmas was a reality this year. I thpought about it constantly that nexy yearis going to be different. I have lived in my house the same one for 25 yrs.I am a creature of habit and can agree with everyone when i say its going to be different next year. Even though I am very excited to wake up in teh same house as FH next yr it will still be strange not to be in my house with my parents. Luckily i am moving 4 blocks away in the same town so FH and I can be at my parents for christmas morning

It's our last Christmas at our homes too and we were both sad. We're definitely excited to be together just us next Christmas morning, but we're also sad because like you said, we've been living with our families our whole lives.

OH THATS great though that you'll live so close so it will make it easier to go there and you can get there early.

Yeah i told fh we can still celebrate x-mas eve at his parents house which is when they celebrate x-mas together anyways...we'll just do x-mas day at our new place so things will still be the same in a way lol...next year x-mas eve is also during a weekday so we'll still have to go to work that day and then after go to church, dinner and his house so it will be almost the same as this year

I'm glad I'm not the only one. We live in VA together and have for years, but because I need to save up all my time off for the wedding, we couldn't make it up to NY this year. In years past we'd go up for a few days and each stay with our parents (we're both from NY), so I was still waking up and doing the present thing with them. This year we went to the movies and made ourselves a nice dinner in VA. It was so depressing without any family or anything to do. I burst out crying in the middle of the day
