it hit fh on x-mas eve...he played his favorite x-mas song the david bowie/bing crosby version of drummer boy which he always plays on x-mas...we were sitting around and they were talking about old x-mas memories and it hit FH...His comp room is next to the upstairs living room and he sat in there for a few mins just sad thinking about it being his last x-mas at home, which is the home he has lived in his whole life...he even went to the downstairs living room alone bc thats where they always used to have the x-mas tree and celebrate with his family but only the last few years they've been doing it upstairs, so he sat downstairs alone for a bit. Me, fh and his brother were looking at old x-mas pics of them when they were kids...i felt so bad bc i can only imagine how he feels, i moved so i dont have this whole thing about leaving the only house ive known. He was sweet and started talking about us hosting x-mas next year and excited about that but its also hard to think it was his last x-mas at home.
I went through these feelings about a week before x-mas when i decorate the x-mas tree which i do every year.
anybody else get this way?

Re: anybody sad its their last x-mas at home
it was my second yr away from home so it's nothing new to me. Even my first christmas away ...I was more excited to start my own traditions.

It's our last Christmas at our homes too and we were both sad. We're definitely excited to be together just us next Christmas morning, but we're also sad because like you said, we've been living with our families our whole lives.
change is definitely very hard even when the new things you are looking forward to and happy about

I'm glad I'm not the only one. We live in VA together and have for years, but because I need to save up all my time off for the wedding, we couldn't make it up to NY this year. In years past we'd go up for a few days and each stay with our parents (we're both from NY), so I was still waking up and doing the present thing with them. This year we went to the movies and made ourselves a nice dinner in VA. It was so depressing without any family or anything to do. I burst out crying in the middle of the day
i am soooo sorry but think about next year, you'll be able to spend x-mas with your family

I'm still upset about it. It's weird b/c FH and I are both the first to get married in our families and it just feels like we're the reason why everyone has to change their traditions....both my parents and his parents said when they got our christmas card (which we sent together) it really hit them that this was it and everything was changing. We did see both my family and his on christmas day, but I'm the first grandchild in my family to get married (on both sides) and so I'm really the only one who has to do this....and I cried as soon as we got in the driveway to leave my family's christmas. FH doesn't really get it I don't think, but I'm really bad at saying goodbye to people and things which he knows. Don't get me wrong, it was really nice coming home to FH's apartment (in NJ, since he had work today) and having our christmas together at the end of the day yesterday, but I was supposed to drive back to LI today (I have the whole week off) to spend more time with my family especially my brother who is leaving tomorrow and my car had a flat tire this morning. So now I'm waiting for AAA to come and then I have to go get my tire fixed and it just feels like I'm disappointing everyone by not being able to spend time with them....
....sorry, not having a great day.....very bittersweet.

I'm so excited that it was our last Xmas 'apart'. Although we spent it together, woke up together (at FH parents house) I can't wait until next year, when we live together and wake up together at OUR house!!! (not at his parents, or his apt in the city with his roomate, etc...)
I do remember that feeling of leaving the house I grew up in. It great to have those memories and definitely emotional when you relive them....
