it hit fh on x-mas eve...he played his favorite x-mas song the david bowie/bing crosby version of drummer boy which he always plays on x-mas...we were sitting around and they were talking about old x-mas memories and it hit FH...His comp room is next to the upstairs living room and he sat in there for a few mins just sad thinking about it being his last x-mas at home, which is the home he has lived in his whole life...he even went to the downstairs living room alone bc thats where they always used to have the x-mas tree and celebrate with his family but only the last few years they've been doing it upstairs, so he sat downstairs alone for a bit. Me, fh and his brother were looking at old x-mas pics of them when they were kids...i felt so bad bc i can only imagine how he feels, i moved so i dont have this whole thing about leaving the only house ive known. He was sweet and started talking about us hosting x-mas next year and excited about that but its also hard to think it was his last x-mas at home.
I went through these feelings about a week before x-mas when i decorate the x-mas tree which i do every year.
anybody else get this way?

I also live alone--so I am used to this. FH still lives in the same house from when he was born, and he didn't seem upset, maybe a little sad--but he said he can't wait for next year when we wake up together. It must be a hard thing to deal with---I hope your FH realizes that it will be great next year when you two start your own traditions and wake-up alone

I'm sad I won't be home when I wake up at my parents on Christmas morning, but I'm excited to have it with FH next year. It's definitely bittersweet!

Oh yes, it's so normal!!! Last night was my first Christmas away from my family. We had dinner in the city with FH and his father. Eating at a restaurant is SO weird on Christmas evening. I missed my parents so much.
It's normal to feel melancholy. Even FH was feeling really sad on Christmas Eve because he is usually with his Mom...
Though, it's exciting to know that you will make new memories together and start a new chapter in the home you make with each other...

Re: anybody sad its their last x-mas at home
i have to say, this xmas was a little bit sad for me, i almost felt homesick...
we already live together so this was the first year that I didnt wake up with my family to open gifts etc. dont get me wrong, it was AWESOME to wake up with FH and open stockings and gifts, but it just wasnt the same as being at home with my mom and siblings. We spent xmas eve with my fam and then all of xmas with his and I found my self missing my family, wishing I was with them (though i LOVE my new family )
next year, we plan to host xmas eve in our new condo so that should help a little, to have everyone together at OUR place

Re: anybody sad its their last x-mas at home
love that song.
I haven't lived home in 7 years but it hit me in a different way. i was leaving my parents house xmas eve night and it hit me that for the first time in 30 years i would not be seeing my parents on christmas day b/c i was spending it with fh's fam.... I started crying as I was leaving and my sisters were all like you get used to it... but for the past 7-8 years it was just me and my parents on christmas day b/c my sisters all went to their in-laws... and the thought of not seeing them or them being without any of us that day just really hit me. meanwhile it was totally my idea to start this year with alternating holidays.

Yes! Yes!Yes! I was very sad about it. I have been staying at FH's place and I wanted to sleep ' home' one last time and I didnt because we got done so late at his sisters on christmas eve. I was very upset about it.
I can relate all too much.

Re: anybody sad its their last x-mas at home
Not only was I like a little kid again yesterday, my mom and Step-Dad were too! I woke up to my mother singing up the stairs to me (Santa Claus came to town...come and get your gifts), but I went downstairs with my brother and saw that the two of them were on the couch with the plastic garbage bag, all ready to open up gifts. I got all choked up thinking that this is the LAST time I'm coming down the stairs, in my Christmas pjs to do this : ( We opened gifts and the last thing my mom gave me was a card with money saying, 'Here's alittle something...Merry last Christmas here wiht us' I started BALLING (which I'm doing now by the way).....so freakin' bittersweet!

Re: anybody sad its their last x-mas at home
i tried not to think about it too much. I am going to miss running down the stairs with my sisters and going to see the presents 'Santa' left!!! My mom still sets it up as if Santa left us presents!!! It is great, even though I am 25, one sister is 17 and the other is 13!!!
Plus i was soo sick, so that really ******.
It is just another chapter in my life that is coming to a close. Yes it is sad, but i just keep thinking how FH and I will get to wake up together on christmas morning and get to start a new chapter together!!!

no he wasn't upset and in the last paragraph i mentioned how fh was talking about us hosting x-mas next year and was excited about it...it was just sad for him, which i understand bc i went through the same thing too. But i think even more so for him bc its the only home he has celebrated x-mas in.

I'm really excited about waking up with FH next year too, don't get me wrong. We'll start our own traditions (which I'm going to think about before Christmas, so we can really say one day, 'We started doing this the year we got married'....I'm sure that my parents are feeling sad too and next Christmas morning will feel like something is missing .

exactly...its not that either of us are upset that we won't be living with our parents next year but it is bitter sweet...its weird bc this is all we've known, waking up celebrating with our families and traditions we've grown up with...we are looking forward to starting our own next year but at the same time its hard toleave behind all we've grown up with until now

I felt the same way. Its weird bc FH and I have been living together for teh past 2 years but it still hit me. When I was with my family and then when we went to FH's family everything was wedding talk. I kind of missed the days when it was just talking about regular holiday stuff. It worked out bc for the first time since I could remember Xmas in my house was just immediate family:my parents, my brother and his wife/kids, and FH. I felt it was the best way to spend the last unmarried xmas.

Re: anybody sad its their last x-mas at home
my last christmas at home was sad - i moved out the following Feb and my parents moved to Florida. It was really sad b/c it was our last Christmas together as a family. i haven't spent a Christmas with them for the last 3 years. i think if i just moved out and my parents were still in NY i wouldnt be sad. i understand why people get upset but they can still go to their old house and see their family. i can't
