Anyone attended a Friday wedding?

Anyone attended a Friday wedding?

We booked our wedding for a Friday night, thinking that it would not be an issue for people since they can get out of work early.

Now that I've sent out my save the dates, people are asking me why I choose Friday and saying its going to be difficult for people to make it b/c they have work. One person mentioned that they attended a Friday wedding and was so tired by 10pm and left early.

I wanted to know what experience others had on a Friday night wedding. I'm starting to worry at people will not have fun or not be able to make it.

Should I expect lots of people to be late or not come? The ceremony is going to be at 7:00/7:30 pm.

Absolutely not...we went to a Friday night wedding about two mos ago and it was fine. We had a great time. Your ceremony is at a great time for ppl to make it on time bec most ppl get out at 5 or earlier on Fridays...those ppl are just trying to rain on your parade...don't worry about them!!!

I wouldn't worry... a lot of people get married at churches and on a friday thats usually between 330-6 and people find a way to make it!

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?

Ive been and so have many others, its becoming quite popular.

Those real close to you will take off of work from far in advance and others who cant take off of work will find some way to make it work.

There are just some miserable ppl who have to complain about anything they get the chance to complain about. I find it VERY rude to complain about this to the bride, yes some ppl might not like it but guess what no matter when you do it some guests will have an issue with something. Day of the week, time youre having it, distance or something.

Next time someone makes a stupid comment say well its just one day and you would expect those who care about you to make some sort of effort. SO WHAT they stay up past 10pm, they dont go out every friday so once in their life wont be a big deal and those complaining most likely dont do anything on fridays so maybe they should be glad to get out of the house and do something, might make them less miserable lol.

When i went i took off that day bc i was able to, i had days at work left, infact i had a lot of days left and it was in november so close to end of year and hadnt used most of my days. But if i couldn't take off, i would just get home quick, get ready and then leave, might be a little late for CH but that is fine if youre late to CH.

Do these ppl never go out on a friday or do anything give me a break. I wouldnt even let it get you down or even sit there and try to explain anything to them. Tell them if its too much to ask for them to attend your wedding they dont have to come, I am sure they'll shut up when they realize how they sound.

and you wanna know what, one of the most fun weddings we attended was on a friday and everyone danced all night.

eh, it could go either way. Your wedding is late enough that people really shouldn't be missing the ceremony due to work. If it was 5 or 6:00 then that could be an issue.

Personally, I went to a Friday wedding a few months ago and it started the same time as yours. It definitely was not difficult for me to get off work, make myself pretty, and then make it to the ceremony right on time (although the people who are getting off work later or those who have to drive a distance to get there might be late). My only problem with the Friday night wedding was what you already mentioned. Since i had gotten up so early for work that morning, I was dead tired as the evening progressed. My parents left around 9:30-10pm, unable to possibly stay up a moment longer. I stuck around though until maybe about 11:30 or 12 and was even too tired to enjoy their Viennese hour. But honestly, there was definitely not a lot of people leaving. I mean certainly more than half of their guests stayed till the end. I think it was just the people that weren't as close to the bride & groom who were leaving early. So if I were you, i wouldn't really stress about it. Most will stay thru I'm sure.

My wedding was on a Saturday night and I even had a few people leave before the end due to the fact that they needed to be up early the following morning. So either way, you can't win. It's always something

I wouldn't expect everyone to make it on time (depending on where they work, if they can get out early and they may need time to freshen up for your party) or to stay til the end. Those who are close to you will make arrangements. I've been to so many Fri night weddings and ya know what, people get a second wind...I wouldn't worry...just don't be too upset if some are late... allow time for travel and traffic,..UGH You're going to have a great party!

We decided to book a Friday wedding and I didn't think twice about all that. First of all, your ceremony is at a great time. All of your guests will have a chance to go home, relax and then attend. Secondly, think about it...everyone goes to happy hour on Friday's which usually turns into happy night. I think people will be awake and ready to end their week on a great note. Lastly, the people that matter the most to you will take off and be there regardless.

your close friends and family will be there no matter what! i've been to friday weddings before, they are more and more popular now and saves you a lot more $.... the last friday wedding the ceremony was at 4:30 and CH at 7... unfortunately i was not able to make the ceremony BUT this was a family friend, i would have found some way to take off of work if this was a close friend or family member...

i've been to weddings on fridays that start at 5, 6 and 7. the one that started at 6 i didnt go to the the church because it was at 3:30 but i still got to the reception on time. all of them i still partied like i would have if it was a saturday, no diference.
with a ceremony starting at 7 i cant see why people wouldnt make it on time

My wedding is booked for a friday night at 8:30pm. When we decided to have a friday night wedding i honestly didnt even think of not having a good turn out. Like everyone said, your close friends and family will make it their business to be there for you no matter what time. They can get off work a little early.

Dont worry about it and stress yourself out.

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?

since most of the time i'm the OOT guest, if its a Friday wedding, I'm late for the cocktail hour. If its a church ceremony that is at like 4pm or something, I definitely miss that.....but since your ceremony is at 7/7:30, I think that it shouldn't be a problem for most people.

You might have a couple more people than usual not make the ceremony, or some might leave a little earlier (tierd from working all week).. But most will just come and have a great time!!

I have been to many Friday night wedding and mine is also on one. I like them I mean what a way to kick off a weekend, but a great party, with awesome food and drinks. I am also concerned about people making the ceremony (mine starts around 5ish) but our CH isn't until 8:30 so that should be plenty of time even if people work a full day and cannot make the church.

Either way no matter when you have it the people that want to be there will make it a point to be there and on time. You put out save the dates it's not like you arn't giving them ample time to figure out their schedules. I wouldn't worry about it. People will make comments no matter when it is... be happy with what you chose, it is fine!

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?

i have been to friday night weddings in the past & i made sure that i either took off from work or worked a half day.

i am letting everyone know a year in advance that my wedding is on a friday & that church is at 2PM. i couldn't see paying that much more money for the same thing to have it on a saturday.

i truly believe that people who want to be there, will be there.

It is incredibly rude for people to ask you WHY you booked a Friday night wedding. And how it is an inconvenience for THEM! That is so obnoxious, if they don't like it don't come! Ugh ! IMO there is nothing wrong with a Friday wedding. Heck if any of my friends or family got married on a Tuesday I would be there with bells on, it is to celebrate the union of tow people not to make a fun 'date night' when it is works for your guests...Im sorry you are dealing with this

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?

My wedding is on a Friday and I just recently went to one on a Fri like a month ago.

Honestly.. I worked that Fri then went to the wedding.. I stayed until it ended. There were a good amount of people who left early. But those closest to the bride stayed till the end.

Also like mentioned... those closest to you will take off that day. And also those closest to you will stay as late as possible.

I'm having A LOT of friends.. so I'm prety confident they will stay late.... also we are staying in a hotel afterwards with a lot of the friends... so I know we have a lot of people staying until the very end.

I wouldn't worry about it. People even have weddings on Thursday these days!!!!!!!!!!

Tell that loser to pay for your wedding if they really want a Sat night! Sheesh.... some people are just beyong RUDE RUDE RUDE!!!

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?

I had a Friday wedding for my first cousin a few years ago. The reception was totally fine, and I didn't mind how late it went. The church ceremony, that started at 3PM, was a little tougher because I had to take a half day of work. Another of my first cousins is getting married on a Friday later in the year and I'll be doing the same thing. It doesn't matter too much, I don't mind if I have to make a sacrifice for someone's most special day of their lives. I can see why people complain about it because they may have to take a day off of work or a half day off of work, but it's nothing for you, the bride , to have to worry about!!

I agree with this! People are obnoxious lol. Like, sorry I was supposed to plan the most important day of my life around your energy levels. Someone will always have something to say!

I'm a Friday night girl...you're going to hear LOTS of complaints- why Friday? why so far? it's so humid in July. it's too cold in January ect.....

You chose it and those people need to get a life.

My wedding is on a Friday night and I love that people have the whole weekend to recover. We're hosting a brunch at the adjacent hotel the next morning, FH's family is having a huge bbq at their home. People that are truly happy and want to celebrate this once in a lifetime event will be there and will NOT complain. Those that do...need to get a life.

To answer your actual question, I've been to several Friday weddings and they were a blast. The young people (I'm including myself) had to have the lights come on to leave. Don't worry about it

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?

we did friday

i prefer fri over sunday - thats JMO.....we didnt want to pay extra for a saturday and 12/6 was booked already anyway so we had no choice to go with the friday BUT we wanted to save somewhere and probably would have went with that date regardless.....

our wedding was LONG - ceremony was at 6 and then a 1 and a half hour cocktail - and then reception with a VH....a lot of people left after the VH....i think that would have happened regardless since our wedding was in LI and a lot of our guests traveled far to attend

the most important people figure out a way to be there - dont sweat it

ETS: next time if someone asks jsut say that your RH is so great and popular that the friday date was all they had left - that is what i should have said when people asked me
