We booked our wedding for a Friday night, thinking that it would not be an issue for people since they can get out of work early.
Now that I've sent out my save the dates, people are asking me why I choose Friday and saying its going to be difficult for people to make it b/c they have work. One person mentioned that they attended a Friday wedding and was so tired by 10pm and left early.
I wanted to know what experience others had on a Friday night wedding. I'm starting to worry at people will not have fun or not be able to make it.
Should I expect lots of people to be late or not come? The ceremony is going to be at 7:00/7:30 pm.

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
someone will ALWAYS have something to say...a few weeks into wedding planning i learned to just nod my head & say 'thanks - i'll keep that in mind'
Our wedding was on a friday...our ceremony was at 5:00 - we had a packed church. Our reception was from 8:30-2:30 YES - VERY late...but EVERYONE had such a great time..sure there were a FEW people that left a little early - but that will happen no matter what time/day ur wedding is. The majority of people,(and the important people) stayed and loved that the next day was saturday! Dh & i actually found out afterwards that a majority of people even went to an afterparty!(dh & i went straight to our hotel since it didn't end untill 2:30am, but our guests kept going lol)... we had set up accomadations at a nearby hotel which was very much appreciated by everyone - and that's where the party kept on going....
ANYWAYS, all that to say: people will always have things to say - but u do what u can do. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves & still talk about how wonderful our wedding was. Not one person ever says 'but ugh - it was on a friday'.... It's about the environment that u create..the majority of people will have a great time whether it's on a friday, saturday, or wenesday! good luck & enjoy the rest of ur planning!

My wedding was on a Saturday night and I even had a few people leave before the end due to the fact that they needed to be up early the following morning. So either way, you can't win. It's always something
EXACTLY! To me, people look forward to getting out of work on friday and are pumped to have a nice time! Our ceremony was early - but we had a huge gap untill our recpetion which allowed people to go home, relax, get ready, etc...like i said - a FEW people headed out early, but just like the ap said, those that did probably would've left regardless of what day it was

You girls are all so amazing and nice.
I feel better now and you guys are right, people are going to complain about something...i guess I just didn't think it would be so soon. I guess I just didn't think it would be an issue since I would never complain about if a friend invited me to a Friday wedding.
Thanks everyone! I have the planning part to worry about

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
Last summer I went to 3 weddings, and they were all on a friday night believe it or not. Everyone may not have been there for the ceremony but they were all there for the reception. I'm having a friday wedding as well. Your close friends and family will make it. Most people take the day off. Afterall they will get an invitation months in advance.

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
I've been to many friday night weddings and never found it to be a problem. I just take the day off of work -- which most people will do. And if they cant...it shouldnt be a problem. FH works in construction and if he doesnt work...he doesnt get paid...so he usually misses the church...but is 100% ready for the reception and that is after busting his a*s all day. People should keep quiet about their opinions!

Everyone has something to say and everyone will feel differently about it as well. They will complain about any day you choose. I haven't been to a Friday wedding yet, but I personally would not mind, in fact I would be a lot more excited about it being that I could party the whole night away and sleep late the next morning.

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
How dare people b!tch and moan about YOUR choice of a wedding date! Whether it's a Thursday night (which have become very popular), Friday night, or Sunday night, the people who mean the most to you will be there and have a GREAT time.
We booked ours on a Friday and didn't even think twice. Only after I booked did I realize that July 3rd would be a holiday for some since the 4th is a Saturday and people usually have off from work, so they granted that day to everyone on Friday instead.
But regardless, have confidence! Your ceremony time is perfect - I can't see anyone having a problem with having 2 hours after they get home to get freshened up and travel to your wedding!

1st of all....people shouldnt be asking WHY you are having a friday night wedding! Why is it their business to begin with. If they can't come, then they can't come! Most of the time people book there weddings on Fridays because its affordable for the bride and groom....most people know this.
I have gone to lots of friday night weddings and yes, you either have to take off of work, leave early from work, or just be late to the wedding.
Me and FH decided to have a Friday wedding because it was so much more affordable for us. No one has questioned us as to why we have booked it on a friday.
Do what you want! Its your wedding!

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
I had my wedding on the sunday before Columbus day, I did not hear any complaints about it.
If you do it memorial day weekend prices of hotels and RH costs are pretty high since its a holiday weekend. I would research to see how much the difference would be.

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
we planned ours for a friday too. dont worry, the most important people will be there and have a great time. people will leave work early, take a half day or be late or whatever the case is, but people will make it - atleast thats what we are hoping as well and thats why there is coffee!! and ive been to many friday weddings, and yes all of the above may occur but i have never left early. i know our church ceremony will prob be lacking guests because we are getting married at 2:30, we want enough time before cocktail hour to take pictures and we want to say hello to everyone at the cocktail hour.

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
I Have to laugh, we had 1st picked a Sat eve wedding...we go bombarded with complaints because many of our guest have to go to a communion THE NEXT DAY, Sunday, & it was too much for them. ARE YOU F***KIN' KIDDING ME? But, this was a battle I chose not to fight & changed it to a Fri eve wedding...
Here's the kick in the ***....Ceremony is at 8:00pm - you would think people would not complain....it's enough time for most to get home after work....change...etc...., NO - We still have tons of people complaining they have to work that day!!! Does everybody work the night shift??
You can never make everybody happy, so make yourself happy & do what YOU want!
OK, done venting.....

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
Well to be honest i was invited to a friday wedding and i was going to decline to attend. the only reason why i did attend b/c it was fh long time friend so i agreed to take off of work. Most people showed up she may have had like 30ppl not come thats just a chance you take . You have to do whats in your budget and if you want friday and it works for you then do it.
