We booked our wedding for a Friday night, thinking that it would not be an issue for people since they can get out of work early.
Now that I've sent out my save the dates, people are asking me why I choose Friday and saying its going to be difficult for people to make it b/c they have work. One person mentioned that they attended a Friday wedding and was so tired by 10pm and left early.
I wanted to know what experience others had on a Friday night wedding. I'm starting to worry at people will not have fun or not be able to make it.
Should I expect lots of people to be late or not come? The ceremony is going to be at 7:00/7:30 pm.

It is incredibly rude for people to ask you WHY you booked a Friday night wedding. And how it is an inconvenience for THEM! That is so obnoxious, if they don't like it don't come! Ugh ! IMO there is nothing wrong with a Friday wedding. Heck if any of my friends or family got married on a Tuesday I would be there with bells on, it is to celebrate the union of tow people not to make a fun 'date night' when it is works for your guests...Im sorry you are dealing with this
ITA! No one should be asking you why you picked the day you did- its your wedding. If its that big of an inconvience, then they shouldn't come. Those who matter the most will be there.

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
I've never attended a Friday wedding, because I haven't really been to too many weddings. In our case, we are having a Friday wedding. I knew for the type of wedding I wanted we couldn't afford a Saturday night, and from day one I was for a Friday night. Our invitation is for 7pm because The Royalton offers champagne and cold canapes upon arrival, and I wanted guests to be able to enjoy that! The ceremony starts at 7:30. I have no worries that the people closet to us will be there! People are ALWAYS going to complain about something, and as Denise (Espo) said, I too find it VERY RUDE to complain to a bride about the day of the week she and her fiance chose to get married. Not classy people. Go for it and have your Friday wedding! Just give the people you want to be there most the info waaaaay ahead of time!!!

ive been to a few friday weddings. i am not a fan of them. fh hates it but since we knew in advance we either took a half day or an entire day off. you do what you have to do.

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
No matter what day of the week you have your wedding, the people who care about you and love you will be there. Like Denise mentioned, there are miserable people who will complain about every little thing. If they don't like the day you choose, they have the option to check the box that says Regrets on the response card. If they have the need to vocalize their negative opinion of your day choice, they don't need to be there.

I went to a friday wedding and it was great! I was not tired at all and plus you get to leave work early I dont see why they're complaining!

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
If your ceremony is at 7/7:30, I see no reason why people can't make it. My friend's ceremony is at 3 on a Friday and I understand why a lot of people will just go to the reception for her wedding. But for your wedding, I don't think it should be a problem. I mean, if people can go to work on Friday and then go out for dinner and drinks and not be tired, then they shouldn't be tired for your wedding.

First off, no one should say anything to you especially in this economy. I went to plenty of Friday night weddings and loved it! It's like something to do on a Friday night and fun!

DON'T EVEN WORRY YOURSELF ABOUT THIS!!! Screw anyone that gives you a hard time about the day of the week you booked Your true friends will make the effort!!
That being said, I personally don't do well at evening weddings...period! Hence, the reason why I booked an afternoon wedding. FH and I went to a wedding on a Friday night once - he worked and I took off. We ended up leaving right after dinner...but this is because dinner didn't make it onto the table until 11pm and we were literally falling asleep at the table. But like I said, this is us - the old fuddy duddys - so don't fret!

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
Im a friday gal... Ceremony at 4 in Nesconsent and CH at 7pm in centerport . Its all a matter of taste I guess and I have heard all the complaints but I look at it this way...Those that SHOULD be there and WANT to be there WILL be there no matter what day, time, or season it is. And even if they cant make it to the ceremony due to work or whatever, at least they make an effort to get the RH. That day your not going to even notice if there are 100 people or 6 people at that ceremony, all your going to see is your FH standing at the end of that isle waiting to spend Best of luck!!!!

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
I'm having a Friday wedding with the church either at 3 or 4 and the reception at 7:30 or 8. It gives people more then enough time to get home and get ready or take the day off. I don't expect alot to attend the ceremony at the church and it's really not that big of a deal. I can't see myself having a daytime wedding or a Sunday and Saturdays were too expensive so it was a Friday right from the beginning. If people don't want to come, then don't come. I've never heard anyone complain about Fridays though..

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
People are going to complain no matter what. If it's a Saturday night you'll hear 'Why so much money!' If it's a Sunday day or Saturday day you'll hear 'Why in the day?' and if it's a Friday night you'll hear 'But we'll be tired!' People love to complain. There is no escape.
However, FH & I went to a Friday night wedding several months ago. It was FINE, we had a blast, and plenty of people were there for everything.
We'd be having a Friday night ourselves wedding except for the fact that I'll be starting my PhD the semester that we are getting married, so I don't want to take off from school right away.

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
I just booked a friday wedding as well and wondered about the same thing.
the responses i've gotten from people are the same- all the really important people that you need will be there, if not at the ceremony they will be at the reception.
i wouldn't worry in your case especially since your ceremony is late.
also you could send out save the date cards so people will know in advance that it's a friday wedding so they can make arrangements.
i'm actually debating a venetian hour on a friday nite, i'm getting mixed reviews as to whether it's worth it, or will people leave early..
My wedding was a Friday right after New Years Day. We had no comments.

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
Mine is on a Friday and the ceremony is at 4 pm!!! I know a few won't come to the church, but most of our guests are OOT so they are going to have to take that day off anyway. I'm not stressing.
Can't believe someone said something to you though. I haven't gotten any comments.

I'm not having a full Viennese hour. It's more money and the party wouldn't be over until 1:30 which imo is too late.

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
My wedding was on a Friday evening last September. Our ceremony was in a church and started at 3:30pm. It was better attended than I expected.
Our cocktail hour started at 7:30pm and the entire reception did not end until 1am. No one left early or had a hard time getting there on time (quite a few were not from the immediate area). From what I have been told and what I saw, everyone had a great time.
If people didn't come, it wasn't because of it being on a Friday night.
You do what's best for you. Don't worry about your wedding on a Friday night - those who really want to be there, will be. And those that don't come will miss out on a fantastic time.

i have been to several friday night weddings and they have been great!
our wedding is on a friday night...people who want to be there will be there no matter what day it is. Plus i have even heard some people say they like friday night better than saturday since you have saturday to rest/travel and then still have sunday to do stuff and don't lose the whole weekend....
don't worry about those comments...your wedding will be great!!!!!!!!

Re: Anyone attended a Friday wedding?
I had my wedding on a friday. I went to 1 on a friday before that and have 2 more coming up both on fridays. I think its becomming more popular than saturday weddings! LOL. My ceremony started at 7. Cocktail hour at 7:30. All in the same place. 95% of my guests stayed till the last song ended at 1am. We had 50% from the NY/LI area and 50% from out of town.

tell them to pizz off!! You know what?? I have plenty of friends, whose weddings I've been in the BP, and it was on a friday. guess what? I took a darn personal day. If they don't like it, they can either a- don't come or b- pay for it.
