Anyone been to a wedding they really didn't want to go to?

We are going to a colleague of FI's tomorrow and I am SO not into it. I know noone there and am so not into the whole network with work people I don't know.

That sucks... but at least, is it somewhere nice that you'll have fun at?? (at least you'll eat good, right?)

No, cocktail reception at a church then in like a church yard -- second wedding for both. So we are going to eat beforehand and it is in CT like 90 min out of city so big drive too. I am just being crotchety and obviously cannot say this to FI so I am venting to you guys.

Deb, totally ok to vent about! I hate the 'So...what do you do?' chit chat.

My sister got married last month and it was very bitter sweet - I hate to say I didn't WANT to be there, because I love her - but her wedding had caused so much drama in my family - long story.

The ceremony was actually quite lovely and then the reception was horrible - sitting at a 'head' long table (circa 1987) with FH at another table! And no music...and lots of relatives telling me I looked all grown up! Ugh.

Where in CT?

Have most definitely been to a wedding I did not want to attend. But I sucked it up, went, stayed a little while and headed home. What a pain to have to drive to CT for a wedding you're not even looking forward to. Try to enjoy yourself. You can always keep yourself entertained by silently making fun of all the hideous dressed guests!

First one...my alleged best friend got married last year. I wanted to get a pic of the two of us and her hubby pushed me a way and said he could email me a pic of them. Then FH and I were seated in the back corner, screw that, we went to Bagel Oasis and went home!

Second one, a wedding in July my FH was my 'and guest' because the bride forgot his last name. I went anyways b/c she is a lifelong friend. Well FH didn't go and I was sat at a table with 2 marrieds and all my single friends. I had a blast up to the slideshow!! Somehow pics from my 21st bday made it in!!! I was totally sh*tfaced and mortified. Or could it be the picks from 7th grade with my horrid early 90's glasses and braces?? Well, there was no bagel oasis in this town so I settled for going to the restaurant at the hotel it was held at and charging it to the brides room!!!

Last year Fh dragged me to a bunch of his frat brother's weddings. They're friends with him and I really didn't have much in common with anyone. It made the whole night uncomfortable. I feel your pain. Where in CT is the wedding? I grew up there.

Another perspective- I doubt that we will be attending a wedding together before ours I really would have liked to have had that experience with my FH. Hold hands during the ceremony, look lovingly in his eyes and whisper, we're next. So envious of that....

FH and I went to 3 amazingly beautiful, lovely weddings of close friends and family members in the two months before we were engaged - I think our engagement timing had alot to do with it! I thought I was going to be the only one getting all misty eyes, but I actually had to tell him to focus on the ceremony in one becasue he was staring at me, leaning in, getting weepy, whispering 'i love yous' and totally distracting people around us!

At his sisters wedding, the last of the three, we were dancing the last song, totally drunk, and I looked at him and said 'Marry me.' He got all flustered and said 'I'm supposed to ask!' and I said 'I'm not asking you, I'm telling you - Marry me.' We laugfhed hysterically and never mentioned it again.

He asked me to marry him a month later.

Unfortunately, my FH would never do something like that- I just wish we weren't the last to get married. I just wanted to give Deb something to look forward to. Good story, BM!

Been there done that.. We got SOOO lost driving to this wedding in CT it was not even funny- the directions totally s*cked.. The wedding was actually the weekend we were getting married- but obviously the year before- and we had recently booked our wedding- therefore, we were very 'wedding alert' and a little critical.

The wedding was totally weird- but, it was actually kinda nice- and we ended up having a decent time- We knew not to expect much, but then ended up being pleasantly surprised. It's still so nice to see two people stand up and profess their love for each other in front of all their friends and family.. even if the food sux. Oh, and then they CLOSE THE BAR for 45 mins!!!

Ok, so I am just back. And although I am a sucker for agood wedding this was kind of eh.
Bride's bro did the service but he was really really nervous and kept cracking corny stupid jokes that seemed really out of place. I was dressed in the NYC uniform of black shift and pumps and of course, completely inappropriate -- everyone there was in sundresses!
Lite cocktail snacks so we got home ravenous and just gorged ourselves on leftovers. Sole redeeming quality; FI getting all mushy when they went down the aisle and said 'I can't wait to marry you.' Honestly made the whole day worth it in spades.
Thanks you guys -- as usual , you rule.

Deb - you made it back alive! I can see you in your chic NYC digs (even though I don't know what you look like, but it's a combo of the dress model in your avatar and the tiara model with the bangs you used to have up!) sipping your drink and looking so NYC-over-it. I'm glad FH got mushy - I love that

welcome Back (boards were slow as hell without your ***!)

You know what sucks- when you get mad on another brides behalf. A good friend of mine was invited to her bosses wedding- she said she would have been offended if she had not been invited. So RSVP'ed for herself and her BF- who was also invited.

And then she ditched the shower AND the wedding! I thought that was so rude, adn was pissed that the bride had to pay for my friend and her BF when they didnt even show up .
