Anyone been to Charleston or Savannah?

What's the scoop? What did you think of them?

I've never been to Savannah, but I loved Charleston. It's beautiful.

LOVED Savannah and I would go back there in a heartbeat. I have a friend who lived near there, so we drove over just for a couple of days. I can't really recommend a place to stay, as we went the cheap route, but we stayed out of town near the beach and ate at a very casual seafood place outdoors. It is sort of a smaller, much calmer version of New Orleans. Very charming, with interesting architecture and we loved looking at all the sights that were in the movie 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.' We walked around a lot. I would love to go back with DH and explore a lot more.

Savannah is absolutely gorgeous, we have family friends that live down there. There isn't a whole lot to do there, long weekend is perfect. Great southern food.

The food was GREAT. We did a lot of walking/shopping down by the battery (on the water). The homes are incredible. I can't give you too much guidance though - I went in my single days with single friends. It's just really relaxed - the people are so friendly.

I went to Charleston for a long weekend, it was alot of fun... we looked at some old houses, went to a still working plantation, wandered around the city, which is very quaint... it was fun!

Thanks for the advice. Any other info would be appreciated too! No HM or Wedding for us in Charleston! We already got married at Oheka and HMed in Paris and Mauritius. But, oh how do I wish we could do it again!!!

I lived in Charleston for 3 1/2 years....I would do ANYTHING to move back. It is BY FAR my favorite place on earth---and I've been many many places!! It's also where FH proposed to me b/c he knew I loved it so much (on a sailboat out on the ocean).

Went to Savannah a million times during my years in Charleston--also LOVED LOVED LOVED Savannah--I highly recommend both places.

If you need any recommendations on places to stay or eat, feel free to FM--I know both cities by heart!!

I would be using my Marriott points to stay at the Rennaisance in Charleston. What is there to do in the city? What kind of food is there? And what type of shopping?

I went to Savannah last August for a wedding. It's very beautiful.

What I loved about it, is it's a walking down. Totally fits into my urban sensibilities.. just take off walking and there is something to see.

I didn't have MUCH time to sightsee- but I did go to a cemetary, walked by the water- and did some shopping- there are so many cute shops down there... and the city is really beautiful- so many park squares....

Went to eat at Paula Dean's restaurant Lady & Sons (she's on food TV)- we went for brunch- it was REALLY good!!!!
