Anyone Been to Italy...

DH and I are booking a trip next year end of March/early April for an early Anniv Gift for each other. We're looking to go to Rome and Florence. Anyone who's been there please suggest things to do and what was your favorite hotel...

We're finalizing everything w/ the Travel Agent tonight so I wanted to make sure I don't miss anything.

TIA!

Re: Anyone Been to Italy...

We went to Italy last year.
One recommendation: purchase at least one travel book (I can't remember the name of the one we'd used) and read it cover to cover. We used ours as a Bible. It tells you the best places to visit and the best times to visit those places. Create your itinerary in advance because there's so much to see and do. Make sure that you check the religious holiday schedule. We went at a time when there were no holidays (at least we thought), but one of the days the Cathedral was closed because of an unknown minor holiday that the book mentioned but no calendar mentioned.

Overall, it was a fantastic trip.

hey Erica!!
DH and I went to Italy as part of our HM.
We went to Rome & Venice
The hotel we stayed in Rome was the Albergo del Senato! Great place, clean, they even upgraded us to a suite w/ a balcony overlooking the Pantheon!
HTH!

Re: Anyone Been to Italy...

We spent a week in Florence and a week in Rome for our honeymoon.

LOVED Hotel Davanzati in Florence. I hated our Rome hotel, so I won't recommend it. (Poor location and rude staff, but great restaurant and large rooms... still can't recommend it on the location and staff alone. Too far from everyone!)

If you want a GREAT recommendation for a wine tour, FM me. We took amazing tours while we stayed in Florence.

If you have time while in Rome, do a day trip to Tivoli!! Also, be sure to take the tour that takes you inside the colisseum. I also recommend taking a day trip to Pompeii, if you are into that sort of thing. That was really cool.

Re: Anyone Been to Italy...

I went to rome for a week and it was amazing...I see someone mentioned buying a book, but i took a whole bunch out from the library and got great recommendations from a whole bunch of different ones.

We rented an apartment in Rome through Romessweethome.com it was amazing! It was so big was 2 floors had a kitchen and a balcony and the view overlooked the vatican wall! it was sooo great! Whatever you do, in Rome sit back and allow yourself to indulge in the culture. Sit at dinner have some wine and just people watch.

In florence we hired a personal tour guide. I would totally recommend it. We used Guido from Tuscanyinmypocket.com He did whatever we wanted and we wanted a tuscany wine tour so after touring the city we went on an amazing tour. FM me if you want more info
