I will only have a few singles there and it seems as though most people are shy and must be dragged out. Shouldn't I just skip it and spare them??

I think you can skip the garter toss, but most people will probably expect the bok toss. This is the feedback I've gotten from friends and family...

Spare them. Please.
At every wedding I've been to when the bride throws her bouquet (only 2 or 3 out of the last 12 I've been to), no one wants to catch it and it just plops down on the floor. It's kind of embarrassing, so the first time, I picked it up, and everyone cheered, 'Yay! You caught it!' So I was put through the whole garter nonsense (I had never seen it before and it was a total shock) and I was horrified. I find it humiliating and kind of sexist, actually, to have a bunch of girls fight for the right to be married off next. and then to have some stranger put his hand up a girl's leg.
I didn't do either. We were going to do the anniversary dance in lieu of the bouquet toss, but we ran out of time!

I second that emotion.... my sister at 12 caught the bouquet with a football move...she's a tomboy and just aims to catch things flying through the air..
well.. they took it away from her and gave it to some hooker look a like at the wedding. It was the dumbest thing ever.
erm, not at my wedding, at my cousins, but needless to say it scared me for live seeing that some dude grope a that woman in front of my grandparents....
so no boq/garter toss for my wedding

I'm not doing either...I was going to do the bo-k toss but then I realized, almost every one of my and my fiance's friends and family are either in a serious relationship or married! I'm not doing the garter toss because I just don't like it...JMO.

I want to do both, but I do NOT want to do the hand up the strangers skirt thing. Does anyone know of any alternatives?

We're skipping on both traditions, you can always hand off the bouquet to someone who's important to you, like your Mom or MOH or a single friend

I don't think I am doing it, I might have everyone come out to dance and give the bok to the couple married the longest.

I'm not doing it. The few single people at the wedding are under 18 anyway. I am not doing a lot of the traditional things.

Re: Anyone did/ will not do the bok/garter toss?
We didn't do either. It is just too young for my taste. Instead, we did a bo-k presentation to a couple that were married 45 years on our wedding date. I also had a special bo-k made up in lieu of the tossing bo-k to put on my mom's grave after the wedding.
I am NOT doing it...it always ends up being a mess anyway..the single women are embarressed to get up and then a 12 year old ends up catching it..NO THANKS! LOL

Re: Anyone did/ will not do the bok/garter toss?
I'm sorta on the fence about this, kinda leaning towards not doing them, may do the bok but we have a lot of friends who are not single, I guess I'll have to rack my brain and see if it's something I should do.
