Anyone did/ will not do the bok/garter toss?

Original post by hogie2be

I will only have a few singles there and it seems as though most people are shy and must be dragged out. Shouldn't I just skip it and spare them??

Spare them. Please.

At every wedding I've been to when the bride throws her bouquet (only 2 or 3 out of the last 12 I've been to), no one wants to catch it and it just plops down on the floor. It's kind of embarrassing, so the first time, I picked it up, and everyone cheered, 'Yay! You caught it!' So I was put through the whole garter nonsense (I had never seen it before and it was a total shock) and I was horrified. I find it humiliating and kind of sexist, actually, to have a bunch of girls fight for the right to be married off next. and then to have some stranger put his hand up a girl's leg.

Must agree!

I'm not doing one. We just think it's kind of dumb, and a little bit embarrassing for me while FH sticks his hand up my dress in front of my grandparents which cheesey music playing in the background? No thanks!

The more I thought about it the less I wanted to do the whole Bo-k garter thing. We were planning on doing an Anniversary dance for our grandparents, but my grandpa passed away this past August and FH's grandpa recently passed away so I don't know now! Maybe we can have Bo-k's made for the grandmas....

We did the anniversary dance instead but I also gave my MOH the actaul toss Bok. I really wanted her to have it!

we're not doing it. the last wedding where it was done...no one wanted to go out...they had to drag the guys for the garter cuz there weren't enough ppl.

and the other few weddings - they just skipped it completely. i dont think anyone cared or noticed...and it just meant more dancing

i skipped the garter toss and bouquet toss...no one seemed to miss it, and everyone had such a great time dancing that it would have ruined the flow of the evening..

I think we are going to pass also- only 1 or two people not going to be married SO why bother- think we will go a anniversary dance and give the toss away bk to longest married couple.

I did both and they had fun with it.

One bride (on the 08 boards) instead of doing the bo-k toss just gave each single female a rose... they didn't do the garter toss.

That's an idea if you don't have many single people there.

I also won't be having many single people if any at all so I will be skipping those.

im skipping the garter and bo-k toss..i dont lik ethe hwole idea, think its kinda tacky. i think we're gonna do the anniversary dance instead

Im skipping both, I feel like no one ever wants to go up anyway, I rather have everyone dancing all night instead of taking a break for this. I actually have seen the bok toss after the ceremony at church and I liked the idea, Im not sure if I would do that though

Not sure what this is either??

Also I am not having the garter toss. I am not having my FH put his hand up my dress in front of all of our guests, lol!

All married couples come up and dance and they call off years of marriage-the couple married the longest gets the bok and a gift from the B&G

We did just the bok toss-the girls loved it since a few were engaged-and others in long relationships.

We didn't do either. We gave the tossing bok to my aunt and uncle who had just celebrated their 20 year anniversary 3 days earlier. We surprised them by calling them to the dance floor to dance to their wedding song.

i'm not doing either. i read of a really nice alternative on another forum. basically the couple gave the bouquet and garter to honor the longest married couple at their wedding. it was really sweet

I'm not doing it. I hate having to participate in it at other weddings so I won't put others through it. Plus we aren't having that many single people at the wedding. We are going to do the Bouquet dance for the married couples. Who ever is married the longest gets it. It is going to be my grandparents. They will be married 50 years to the day.
