Anyone drive a Honda?

Original post by merf99

I drive a Honda Civic now which I love but have the chance to get a new one. I can get either the same Civic or upgrade to an Accord. I'm just worried that the Accord is much bigger and it won't be as easy for me to drive. I'm only 5'3' so I liked driving a smaller car. But everyone thinks an Accord will be better in the long run (safer, better for kids, etc). Anyone have any opinions on driving one? Are they that big?

Thanks!!

I

The civic is more reliable, better on gas, and cheaper to own. Also Honda's are built much better than Vw's.

I think some of what was said is true but let me just say that I know 4 people who have VW's that have over 150,000 Miles on their vechiles and they are running strong. So I think they are good cars.

Its a matter of preferance. I prefered the Jetta because I felt was was better quality for the money I was spending (but I got a great deal on my car)

I still think that if you wnat to start a family you may want to consider upgrading. Whether its a Civic or a Jetta I think that either of them would be tight with one child and all their stuff (my brother got rid of his Civic after my neice was born because of this!)

Re: Anyone drive a Honda?

Does your brother have a 7th generation civic? 7th gen meaning 2001 or newer? Because the 2001 is alot bigger than the 2000 and under on the inside.

I am sure there are Jettas on the road with over 150k miles on them, I didn say that VW doesnt make a good car, I said that Honda makes a better car. I have been around cars my whole life, and I have seen lots of stuff.

I worked for a Ford Dealer and I worked for a Porsche, VW, Audi, Panos Dealer. I have been around Honda's for many years also. I had two civic's that I modified and put in car shows. Still I will tell you that Honda's are made better. I would rather have a honda with 150k miles on it then have a VW with 150k miles on it. VW's are more expensive to fix and their parts are more expensive than Honda's.

You are very right about $$ VW's are more expensive. WIth regards to the rest in the end we disagree. I prefer the VW to the Honda!

Oh and he had 2001 Civic! Just wasnt big enough, just as in years to come my Jetta wont be big enough and I will be driving FH's maxima with the kids in the back!

Get the Passat next...I like that car.

I had a 2001 civic. I traded it in. I now have a chevy Prizm, which is basically a toyota Corolla with chevy Badges. I just needed a cheaper car.

NOpe next car is an SUV. I wanted my FH to get one but he chose the 2003 maxima which is one of the nicest cars. But by the time we pay off the cars, and have kids, and me not working....it may be awhile!!

Which is why I suggest trading up now if you have hte opportunity....

Ilove the Passat too. It is such a nice car. Also VW is coming out with a higher model, I forget the name but I got info on it in the mail and it reminds me of BMWs has a ton of new features. Its their luxury model!

Gotta love the indiglo of the VW dashboards as well! Thats a really cool feature!!

ETA its the Phaeton! starts at 65,000

The new VW is called the Pheaton. It is a twin of the Audi A8L. It is pretty expensive. I saw one in the outlets in riverhead. It is pretty hot.

Thanks for all your opinions. I am going to test drive the Accord again this week (I am going away for work so hopefully it can be soon) and will make a decision next week. Pretty much everyone is saying go with the Accord- thanks SO much for all your opinions!

Im as short as they get (I like to say Im 5'2' but hubby insists im not )
I learned to drive in a station wagon (many moons ago) and had no problems in THAT!

I now have a civic as well as a minivan and I actually feel more comfortable in the van now. I actually feel claustrophobic in the civic now!

I say go for it !

Im around 5'3''
I drive a tiny little car. Mazda MX3.

I'd have to agree with Scott on the Honda/VW thing. I've been around a lot of cars and VW are such so much more expensive in the long run (and the start).

Personally I say stick with what makes you comfortable. If you out grow it, oh well, move up in the world.

We are looking at the Mazda3. It's a smaller version of the Mazda6. I have over 150,000 miles on my own Mazda and she purrs. Very quiet and smooth ride.

I think if you take care of your vehicle, oil changes, proper upkeep, tuneups and careful watch on it, your car will last you a good long time.

I was manic about my Mazda from day one. I could have cared less about the warranty. I think half the time people just say 'Oh it's covered' and let things go on their cars. It may be covered but in the long run the damage is done and the warranty doesn't last forever.

Good Luck.

ETA: I love that Passat too.. sweet car.. too expensive to bother.

X FH has a 2001 mazda MP3. Its like protege with extras. He likes it. He loved his 2000 civic SI that he totaled. He was very upset to see that the new Mazda 3 has Navigation! LOL!

LOL
I NEARLY bought the MP3..but was holding off. We still like them. Too bad they only made them for a year.

Im a Mazda junkie. Go to the Mazda car meets and national shows in PA. Such a nut I am.

Jim wants the navigation added to the Mazda3 but it's an extra $1750. Its optional so I'm leaving it as the last option. Moon room, wheels, sport package and other such things come frist in my book. Besides. Jim set up his Clie (palm) to be a GPS system anyhow. So we don't 'need' another one.

Gotta admit: I wouldnt mind it. So cool! Our built Mazda3 comes out to just under $20,000 so we may end up adding that last option after all. 'We'll see' as I keep telling him.

heh

VW's service is more $$ but oil changes are recommended every 5500 miles instead of the traditional 3500 (I do mine 3500 but thats because of low mileage) the oil change cost me about $33 at the dealer. as for start up cost My VW was alittle over $17,000 a comparable Civic I was quoted $16, 400 (I think it was 3 years ago, but the difference wasnt too much) but I got a great deal on my car.

I really like the Mazda's they make some nice cars!

ETA: My friend has navigation in her Acura! A bad driver to begin with -which she always was- should NEver have that! SHe got us pulled over becuase she was swerving and she told the Police she wasnt drunk just looking at her navigation system!

Re: Anyone drive a Honda?

They made the Mazda speed after the MP3. I LOVE DRIVING THAT CAR. Maybe only cause its a stick hehe. Im a geek. FH laughs and loves seeing people who drive MP3 cause they didnt make them with Moon Roofs and he got one put in. He was like how could I buy a new car and not have a moon roof..... When he sees other Mp3's he say Ya but I have a moon roof haha.

We have a Honda CRV. We love it. It doesn't feel big when you drive it. Just higher up.

BTW Scott...we got it at Valley Stream.

LOL
Jim did the same thing to his older car.

I have no moon roof but the funny thing is my car comes with a moon roof, I have a stock base model so it has not 'extra features'. So instead I say 'Yah, but I got the warm cockpit airplane feeling going here.'
Jim loves the Mazdaspeed as well. As a matter of fact Im buying some Mazdaspeed engine mounts for my MX soon. My car will be a project car after we get the new one. For now it's a workhorse. Not pretty to look at but really fun to drive.

The new Mazda3 comes in auto stick and stick. Since Jim would use it mostly to and from work, we are getting auto stick. Besides it's four doors that aint sports car (j/k)

Now.. don't get me started on the 3rd Gen Rx7's... DROOL.

Good for you with changing your oil sooner. The recommended doesnt come close to understanding NY/Long Island traffic, humidity and salt factors. I never listen to that. Every 3000 OR 3 months my car is taken in. Since I never put 3000 miles on the car, every 3 months my guy sees me. Its $26.

I just like Mazda cause you get a lot of features and extra stuff standard for a vehicle that's usually a nice ride and pretty fancy for it's cost.

I still freak out to see kids usings the 626 & Millenia as Pimp-mobiles with loud systems and chrome accents. Shameful. Now my MX that's different. In a few years she'll be Protege Yellow with Black detailed work and solid black interior. Can't wait.
