Anyone else feel intimidated by the Church/Priest?

Whenever I have to call the church to ask a question, I put it off until I can't anymore and I get so nervous. What's up with that?

I want to call my church to see if we can move our ceremony from 3pm to 2pm (or 2:30) and I'm dreading it.

Re: Anyone else feel intimidated by the Church/Priest?

I hate calling my church too because I know that I have to speak to my Pastor who I do not like but when I have a ceremony question or when I need advise I something I call my old Pastor (he is the actual one marrying us). I love talking to him.

Re: Anyone else feel intimidated by the Church/Priest?

At first I was a little intimidated but he put us so much at ease after the first meeting now I know I can call about anything. Not to mention the other priest used to be the Chaplain for the Mets so you know he is down to earth. Its great!!!

Re: Anyone else feel intimidated by the Church/Priest?

If you're intimidated by the priest why don't you ask the ladies in the rectory office first. Moving the ceremony might not even be possible if there's another wedding or something going on.

As for the priest, we're lucky, he was FH's priest from when he was in grammar school so he's pretty cool and easy to talk to

Re: Anyone else feel intimidated by the Church/Priest?

Dont worry about it! I've called and spoke to Monsignor Curley a ton of times! I'm a real worry wart so I kept calling back asking questions, changing the rehearsal dinner, etc... I apologized and he laughed. Said it was no problem.

Call them!

Re: Anyone else feel intimidated by the Church/Priest?

Thanks Stephanie! I didn't want to bother you with an FM since your date is getting SOOO close.

Turns out that when we met with him he said the earliest would be 3pm on a Sunday for our ceremony and I just found out that the last mass is 12pm and there are no baptisms that day....so why not 2 or 2:30?? But I'm afraid to ask....

Re: Anyone else feel intimidated by the Church/Priest?

hi hon - i think it is bad that you are intimidated by the priest - maybe he isnt the right one to marry you - JMO but i think that you should like the person marrying you.
i do think the other suggestion of asking the office person would get you around this much easier ( and maybe she can explain why you cant do it earlier)

Re: Anyone else feel intimidated by the Church/Priest?

I am intimidated by the church & the preist.
To the point where we are considering changing the church.
actually the Denomination.
We are only Catholic by inerheritence, so I feel like a fraud.
Aug21-04 suggested teh church, and they are nice, and were very accomodating when no one ese would take us, but I don't feel comfortable calling at all & I fear meeting with the preist because we haven't done any of the things he asked us too. ( pray daily together, go to confession monthly, go to church weekly together to the same mass, get involved in the parish community)

I agree with Oakslady though- I think it is a bad thing. We are consdiering looking elsewhere, but FH will have to call around. I can't even do that. I got too many rejections the first time around- I was a mess.

Re: Anyone else feel intimidated by the Church/Priest?

WOW! Tourist, those are alot of very specific requests the priest made of you.

I have to say that we're getting married in the church I went to pre-school at, I was baptized in, made first communion, confirmation, etc...and the priest performing our ceremony is the one who confirmed me. He's done nothing outright to make me feel this way, just my own insecurities and maybe it's my guilty conscience because I don't go to mass weekly, confesssion monthly, etc....

But thanks for the support girls!

Re: Anyone else feel intimidated by the Church/Priest?

I just asked that question on the main board..I am allittle apprehensive when it comes to talking to the priest, bec. he wants me to go to mass every sunday. He can really make you feel like for not attending, but I beleive this is the last meeting time out of 4 times already ....we will get together to talk. I have about 5 questions to ask him. I am sure he answered most of it, but I was so nervous...and probaly not paying attention.

At first I thought it was normal, but other people are telling me otherwise--even for a Catholic church.

I am just intimidated by authority figures in general, so that could be what your case is. Especaily since he performed all your sacraments, they are even more terryifiing when you are a child, so part of that is probably still with you.
