this doesn't surprise me at all. if you ask me... i think all politicians are like this. some are probably much worse. I think it is absolutely hilarious that he got caught and now has to endure the public humiliation that he very well deserves.
Despite the fact that I think he does deserve the humiliation, I feel sorry for his wife and 3 teenage daughters b/c they don't deserve it.
I think his wife knew what was going on and if she had any self respect she wouldn't be standing by him through this. Most politicians wives are simply there to make their husbands look like great family men while they get to live the great lifestyle. They don't have real relationships. She should have known better then to subject her daughters to a sick relationship like that. The only ones I feel bad for are the daughters.
Ive been saying this all along, i think she knew. maybe not that they were hookers but that he was cheating. Listen, alot of my moms clients are filthy rich, celebrities, high profile etc. Let me tell you that MANY of them know that their husbands cheat. I mean come on, they are away for long periods of time, they hear things or theres evidence and they choose to ignore it. Many admit they know but hey they are not giving up their lifestyle and some feel that it comes with the territory. I think some people just have high opinions of those who are rich and or powerful, but i really dont at all. Ive seen many of these women and more than half are either alcoholics, on drugs, addicted to prescription pills. When i was younger i worked at a salon with high profile rich people and they were the craziest people ive seen SERIOUSLY!!!
exactly!
i swear to you when i think of many of those women, all i do is shake my head bc of how crazy they were. I mean even passing out in the salon from being so drunk, meanwhile its early afternoon. And many will even talk about drugs and all that freely. New bandages all the time from new plastic surgery and much more

most are bored...many dont have jobs, so they do things to occupy their time lol. You know how many of them hardly ever washed their own hair and they had appointments scheduled EVERYDAY to get their hair washed and blow dry, and a big thing was that it gave them something to do. Many also like i said get cheated on, they love the money but doesnt make life easy when you have such things happening.

i think the worst part is they live like that without even considering how it affects their children. I mean...don't get me wrong the children benefit from the money too... but they are raised to think relationships like that are normal. it's a really sad cycle.

Lets get down to brass tax....
When hes all hot and bothered, hes only thinking of one thing, on himself...
And its sad bc now he has to look back and since he couldnt control Mr. Peak a Boo - He has to think about what his children face when they go to school, what they read. Its a shame. Poor kids.
Dont dip the stick in the community water holes.

LOL
I totally feel bad for his daughters. Whether or not his wife knew or suspected, I bet there is no way that they knew. And, they are all young -- I wonder if the youngest even has a grasp on what the F is going on here. Kids that age are so mean, I can't imagine what these girls are going to go through at school.
He is a GROSS dude. Did you read about the part where the hooker was told that he might want her to do things that she 'might not think are safe'? I later read this was in reference to the fact that Eliot doesn't want to wear a condom! Can you imagine? Silda needs to get herself to the gyn ASAP!

Re: Anyone else feel violated?
Honestly, the only reason that this is getting so much airtime is because it is a s*x scandal. There are so many scandals that happen, be it federal or state level, which have far worse consequences for the public than this. Yet they arent nearly as sensational as this one. Governor getting caught with his pants down makes for good, titillating headlines.

corrupt yes, but 80k worth of prostitutes...not quite the same to me as the other adulterous/misogynistic stories about politicians in the last 10 or 15 years. especially b/c he preached so much about morality and righteousness. bill clinton really made no secret that he was a pig, so i wasn't too shocked by that one.
exactly - spitzer built his legal career as a tough prosecutor - fighting coruption and vices - prostituion rings being one of them - as former prosecutor myself - he sickens me - its like if DA Kathleen Rice got a DWI - it would be so hypocritical since its her platform. He is a LOSER.

I 100% agree. Maybe I am idealistic, but anyone voted into office should not be behaving in this manner, period. It's disgusting. And they think maybe he used CAMPAIGN MONEY to pay for these hookers .... NOW THAT SICKENS ME.
And I do not know if it's true, but I heard -- from my mother -- that Kathleen Rice is a recovering alcoholic and doesn't drive, ever.

Right, and another thing I should've posted last night - even if 'everyone does it' - that doesn't make it right.
As far as Kathleen Rice goes - she is very close to some partners at my firm. I've never heard the recovering alcoholic thing, but I guess I shouldn't expect to - it's not like that's something that would be being discussed around the office.

Re: Kathleen -- we had this discussion at dinner when my uncle was over. Some thought it was hypocritical of her, and some - me included - thought that it makes her a better DA because if she went through it, she knows how bad it was and she knows that the laws need to be tougher to stop drinkers from driving. If she was - I applaud her for getting help and for trying to make Nassau a safer place.
Re: Spitzer. Something I wanted to say before but forgot. I really, really hope that his wife did not know about it. I hope she wasn't sticking around just to pay for her lifestyle. She will get money, yes, and she should - for pain and suffering and for her children's suffering, and to pay for their upbringing, college, all of that. But to stick around because you're afraid to be without that lifestyle - I know people do it, but it is a sickness and they need to get help.
