I'm 34 now, but I'll be 36 by the time I tie the knot. Better late than never!!! Any other 'older' brides out there?

We were both 35 when we got married and we definitely did not have the wedding we would have had had we been younger. We stayed away from 'cutesy' bridal things and preferred a more mature sophisticated look to our wedding. Most of our own guests were in our age range and older as well. It was elegance and not a lot of 'fluff and puff'.
It's funny that you say this bc I like to think that our wedding was both fun/cutesy and elegant. DH was 41 when we got married and I was 25. But I think the fun part was more him and the elegant part was more me!!

I was 33 and DH was 43 but I was the youngest person at my wedding - we were able to do a lot of different things that we wouldn't have been able to do had there been a younger crowd - like play all indie music instead of 'popular' music.

Re: Anyone else going to be 35+ when you get married?
My wedding day is my 38th birthday.
After weathering 5 years of living together, 2 children and the drama of buying our first home - the wedding planning is cake. I think as an older bride I may be a little less prone to sweating the small stuff... mainly becuase I have been through so much 'big stuff' that it kind of puts things in a different perspective.
Now that doesn't mean I don't have my moments of panic, tears and terror... but past 35 or not I am STILL a bride!

that sums it up perfectly! I don't care about tiny traumas... and I steered clear of things that frequently invite conflict... such as BM dresses. I'm leaving it up to them! Since planning can instigate familial conflict, I have done virtually all of it by my self, with onlt FH having input...
I just want the people closest to us to be themselves and happy. I don't care what color shoes they're wearing, or how their hair will be done. I figure if they choose the clothes, they will look more like themselves... which is a good thing.
Like you, I do have my moments still... such as my neurotic episodes during mass program and invitation assembly. But overall, my goal is calm and enjoyment...

Wow, you ladies summed it up perfectly! I think woman who are already well established with their FH have a totally different outlook on the whole wedding thing.
I'm 35yrs, will be 36 by the wedding. We've been living together for the last 5 years. We have a 4 year old son and we purchased our first home last June. After 6 years together and all that comes with a committed relationship the wedding is pretty much a formality

I am 34 and a half.
As far as doing things differently when you're older... The biggest thing is I outgrew anything that reminded me of high school...
Like the thought of paying someone 800 dollars to drive me to the reception seems kinda dumb now. So we're skipping the limos.
Or making my bridesmaids all look the same... I don't care how they wear their hair or how their makeup looks (assuming it's not ugly... they have freedom of expression).
The best thing about marrying in your 30s is marrying an older guy. He's not still trying to be a kid... though is still a kid at heart!

I was 37. I don't really feel like I got married late. I got married when I was ready, not a minute sooner nor a minute later.

So happy to know I'm not the only bride 35 and over! I absolutely agree with the woman who posted that she didn't get married too late or too soon, but when the time was right for her. My FH was well worth waiting for, and I'm sooo glad that I didn't settle for anyone else. Congrats to us all!

I bet I win the prize on this one! I'll be 56 and he'll be 61 and it's the first marriage for both of us. So we are trying to do it in style but not get too carried away cause all the funds are coming from our Retirement nest egg!!

Re: Anyone else going to be 35+ when you get married?
I will celebrate being 41 5 days before my wedding. Will be 45 on our wedding day. It's the first wedding for both of us. I find that being older, the small stuff doesn't bother me. I don't have the patience to shop around for things for the wedding, but it is also because I know what I want and how to get the things. I guess it's experience. Booked our videographer / florist / officiant on the first meetings. There was a 'click' so to speak where we understood each other. I just want to have a great party that day.
