I mean, I love getting manicures & pedicures, I just hate being there ... I always feel uncomfortable and I really just want to close my eyes & relax but they try to start conversations, etc ... (I am currently procrastinating about going which I've been wanting to do since last week ... I was all excited when DH said he wanted to go last Thursday but then he was sick )

I used to love getting my nails done, but hate being there...I know what you mean... needless to say, I havent gone in about 2 years.

i am the same way. I had to explain this to freinds that wanted to have my bachelorette party at a spa. It is too much personal space invasion & I feel rude if I dont' talk, yet I don't really want to talk. I likr thr findshed product though. Same goes form eyebro waxing ( which I am in desperate need of & putting off.)
Your DH goes for manicures? And Farah thought mine was weird for sewing!

I know what you mean! FH thought i'd go all the time once i had my ring, NOT! I went for the first month, maybe. What annoys me even more than not feeling comfortable is that I always mess up one finger somehow before i even get home! I hate sitting for more than 10 minutes waiting for them to dry & I use the quick-dry top coat!

I totally agree with you there! Did you see that Seinfeld episode with Elaine & the Korean nail place? So funny! I like going to English speaking places for that reason. Plus it bothers me when they try to talk me into other services such as waxing and they aren't even licensed for that. I won't let anyone wax me unless they are licensed. It just gives me the creeps.

I do..now I only get manicures..but when I used to have tips,,I dreaded going to get them filled.

Actually mine likes to get manicures as well, but not many places will buff.
Wendy, are you kidding??? A manicure is the most fun you can have with a $10 bill in NY!!! I don't ever actually talk when I'm there.

I've never gotten a manicure. There's something about it that's unappealing to me. But I'm pretty sure that DH would be a regular customer if only he weren't worried about the possible blow to his masculinity.

TOTALLY the reason I hate going as well
I love just relaxing, having someone else do my nails/pedi... but the jibberish usually gets to me (to a point)
As someone else said, when I had my french tips and it took a LONG time to have it done, i really would dread going!

I enjoy my manicures, even though I haven't been in a while. Although the place is Korean-run the owner has been here a while and speaks English. She speaks to the others in Korean to give orders or explain things, but is very chatty and funny and great with the clients. She bought the place over the summer. Before that, the prior owners were also Korean and their daughter was my manicurist. She was in grad school and worked for her parents and was completely Amercianized. I became friendly with her and we exchanged birthday and xmas gifts and talked about clothes and enjoyed my manicures.

For me though...I LOVE pedicures....I don't feel the same weirdness as i do when getting manis. I do close my eyes and relax

Yep. I find that most of the places near me do a sloppy job. I stopped going, and just did it myself. (I don't get tips or anything special, though)

GG & I got our pre-wedding mani/pedi together!! We also got them in Vegas on the HM.

The first time we went, the guy said 'Oh, I should charge you double' (Tim's a size 14 shoe)
But you should see him in our wedding video *admiring* his nails! (Actually, he had gotten a new person who cut his cuticle REALLY bad )
