Anyone else have an FH that works ALL THE TIME

Original post by jteach711

My fh is a mortgage broker and lately he has been working like 80 hour weeks. I know he is stressed with the wedding and we want to buy a house and have a baby shortly after the wedding, but I feel like I never see him anymore (and we live together). The sad part is when he is home he is so tired or stressed out it makes it hard for us to connect with each other lately. I know he is doing it for our future but I miss him and I hate seeing him so worried all the time.

BTW, we make pretty good money, I have been teaching for 6 years and he is even in the process of buying the mortgage company he works for. I feel like the financial stress will never end.

Anyone else in my boat

FH is working 7 days a week..I understand we need the money badly but still.. I do enjoy seeing and spending time with him! He works as a Real Estate Property manager by day and at night he runs his own little construction company and does A LOT of sidework. He knows alot of people who always need a new bathroom, kitchen, electric/wiring, plumbing etc...so thats monday-friday and then hes usually gone friday-sat night and sometimes even sunday morning b/c he goes upstate to build homes and apartments for a friend of his up there..i hate it and i just want to be rich so he doesnt have to bust his *** anymore lol

Re: Anyone else have an FH that works ALL THE TIME

I think I have it harder than anyone here. FH was transfer to Cali over a year ago and things were okay because at least we can visit each other when we have the time. But recently he was transfered again to TnT and now I am very stuck. The very moment he was transfered there, I've completely hit a road block planning this wedding. We would talk to each other every day while he was in Cali and suddenly we only talked a couple of times. He still doesn't have his computer installed. With my family not really there to help me plan the wedding (my mother and FMIL constantly have an opinion, that's why I leave both of them out even though they are great), I feel like I'm very close getting a nervous breakdown with this. I am planning to visit but haven't spoken to him in a few days, more reason to worry.

I much rather have a workaholic FH here in New York than be super far away in TnT.

Sorry have to vent.

Thanks. I much rather have him 3 hours behind and in the same country than a 5-hour flight in another country. Yep, I meant Trinidad and Tobago. Yeah I know the long run will be worth it (Rob's making 6-figures there, in USDs) but the past week (with the exception of the closing and going to the tasting) has left me stressed and at times crying my eyes out. He did ask me to join him down there and as much as I want to be with him, I need to be here to plan. Plus, I don't wanna leave my mother alone in PA.

same thing here...my fh doing it for the $$ also. He's being there right now to make things easier later...look at it like that. What an awesome sacrifice to make for your future. I forgot about you're mom and the house. I assume it all worked out well!!

Yeah it did, thank G-d! I still have to deal with the whole judgement but at least my mom now have a house thanks to me. It's very hard that I can't put anything down yet because of this. He wants to wait until December but I am afraid the date will be gone. Another thing I did brought up on our last conversation is that if we really needed all this people to come? It's like more than ever I want a destination wedding because of all of this. He's being over there, I'm planning a New York wedding from PA... argh!

My SIL has it worse than me because my brother went to Iraq and decided the pain was too much so they eloped.

And Shoelace, don't worry. Hopefully if he gets the day shift, you'll be able to spend time together.

FH works as a manager at UPS in the morning and then runs his own pool business. He has to be at UPS at 3:00 am and then when he gets out of there around 10:00 he goes right out to do all of his pool stuff. By the time he comes home at like 7 or 8, he's shot and falls asleep right away.

Luckily, pools is only seasonal so in the winter he only has UPS and the rest of the day to do whatever.

i totally feel the same way! my FH owns his own construction company so he has been working 7 days a week. we dont live together so it makes it so hard. wheni do go over there he is so tired he just falls asleep. im so sick of having conversations w/myself and his dog! but then i realize that things will get better once we get married, but i definatelt understand where u are comming from. i thought i was the only one who felt this way too.

My FH works for a deli and only has off on Tuesdays, unless he takes off for a special occasion weeks in advance. He doesn't get home till after 4 or 5, so I can still see him at night, but it would be nice to spend a saturday or sunday afternoon with him and do things. I always wonder how this will effect us in the future!!

YES!!!! He is a retail manager and he is randomly off on the weekends and NEVER has a consistent day off. He works 10 hour days or better. Now the holidays are coming so its back to 6 days a week The only good thing is its OT

Re: Anyone else have an FH that works ALL THE TIME

i can totally relate - FH works 2 jobs and does ton of OT for his main job 3 nights a week he works at his 2nd job and doesn't get home till 11pm. but thankfully we have the weekends unless he get called for an emergency. but it's necessary b/c of the mortgage and bills and the wedding. hopefully one day we'll be stable enough to not need his 2nd job

but i totally can relate - i'm home alone ALOT

Re: Anyone else have an FH that works ALL THE TIME

FH is in retail and just finished 6 weeks of overnights... it was HORRIBLE...the only advantage is that we both do retail so we can request days off together...but due to the sporatic and inconsistent schedule we seem to always work opposite days and hours...he's just on his way home now

I totally understand where you guys are all coming from.

My FH travels for work, and right now he is in TOKYO!!! he has been there for about 2 months. I am actually going there this thursday to visit! I've never been so it should be fun. But it definitely is really difficult having him away all of the time so I completely understand....

My FH travels for his job (outside sales rep)...so he is constantly on the road (just left again tonight to go up to CT for a work event for tomorrow)....It's hard but this job is temporary (or until we have kids...then we both know he needs to be home with me!)
