Anyone else planning from DC?

We are trying to plan from DC AND do it by April!! so far we have booked our site/food/caterer and i have the wedding dress. but that is it!!
Invitations are next! Do any brides to be in DC have suggestions for where to look for invitations this weekend near DC (or Maryland -- I actually live just outside DC in Maryland)?? Any advice welcome. Plus, respond back and let's hear for the LI brides in DC!

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Hi!
I live in White Marsh MD, and my Fiance lives in Columbia, we are getting married on LI in October 2003... It definitely is tough to plan from far, but at the same time, it forces you to get a lot done in the short times that you are at home. As for invitations, there are several online invitation catalogues that you can request for free, I just ordered some myself yesterday. Go to theknot.com and click on invitations, or do a google search for wedding invitations. I know a lot of people who have gotten theirs this way- and the companies will send you samples to show you the paper types etc... Glad to see another MD -NY planner!!

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

I am planning from Baltimore, Maryland. Pretty close to White Marsh actually. I have thought a little about invites, but no decisions yet. I have been having enough trouble trying to squeeze in trips to LI to meet with vendors! I am getting married on 7/5/03.

I used to live in Bethesda. Is that near where you are JoRo?

Hi JoRo! Looks like last weekend was very productive! Congrats on finding your dress

I am planning from Bethesda and there are a couple of stores that have great invitations but they are $$. I am working on invites right now too and have been doing most of my searching online. I have another friend planning her wedding here in DC. I will find out where she is going for invitations.

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Thanks ladies, so glad that there are a few of us!! i actually work in DC (should be working now, but am chatting! ) and live (with my FH and two beautiful pups) in University Park Maryland (it is east of Bethesda but just about as close to the District). Thanks for the advice. I will check out some online invitations!

Jenny, ignore my forum email asking you about invites! I didn't see your post! a few hours back at work and i am lost!

All of us Maryland/DC brides should try to get together sometime. It is hard, but still fun to plan from afar. i agree that it makes you just do IT!!

JoRo - me and my best friend both work in DC and are just starting our planning. (She's from Suffolk and I'm from Nassau) Our Southern boys don't know what they're in for! A get together between us all would be great

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

I am from Suffolk too, and my FH is a Southern boy himself! he is doing pretty well with the planning, but i have to make sure we have at least one wedding-free night a week where we just curl up in front of the fire and not talk!

we should definitely all get together. i just started, but have to move fast because our date is in April!

Do you think we could plan something before the holidays, or should we just plan on getting together after the holidays are over (that might be easiest for everybody). Let me know what you all think about getting together times, and then we can start planning for real! i'm thinking a cafe somewhere in Bethesda on weekend?

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Hi Girls!

I am from suffolk, and my FH is from western maryland (where the cows are!!!).

I would love to get together, I think post-holiday would be easiest- I can't believe there are only 3 weekends until Christmas. Where is the time going???

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Hello all! Sorry for the late response...I don't get on the boards that much anymore. But I am THRILLED to hear there are so many of us planning from DC! Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one doing this long-distance. I am totally up for a get-together sometime after the holidays. How fun!

I am originally from Suffolk county, too (Commack), but moved to Manhattan after college and then down to Silver Spring, MD...then to Dupont Circle in DC...and now my fiance and I own a townhouse in Arlington, VA! So I've hit all three! I've been here almost 7 years now...I can't believe it!

When are you all getting married?

JoRo, did you find your invites yet? If not, let me know, as I may have a contact for you. (Email me since I don't get onto the boards all that often anymore.)

After the holidays would be better for me too. And Bethesda would be perfect! (that's where I live- hee hee )

Yes, definately after the holidays. I'm swamped!

Re: DC Get-together!

I know how fast my calendar books up, and, with wedding planning (not to mention my job and my MBA program), it's only worse, so I wanted to throw out some ideas for a get-together.

Bethesda would be a GREAT place to meet, since it seems we're mostly in MD or DC (or work in DC), plus it's metro-accessible. I personally like Cafe Deluxe. Or there's always Montgomery's Grill, Jaleo (tapas), Levante's (Mediterranean)...all good stuff. Anyone have any preferences?

Do you all prefer weeknights or weekends? How does a Thursday night sound? Maybe January 16 or 30?

Thoughts?

I'm doing my Master's too! I don't have a preference as to the day other than I don't think the 16th will work for me. I may be out of town that whole week on a business trip. I'll go with whatever restaurant you all pick. I don't know that area at all.
Actually, somebody here at work says Positano is good. It's on Fairmont Ave. He said Tragara is also good (both Italian places - I miss good Italian food!!!)

Re: DC Get-together!

Positano...that's where I'm (hopefully) going on my honeymoon!!

That works for me...or any of the other places. I'm pretty flexible. The date's more important to me. Would Thurs Jan 30 work for everyone?

Annie, where are you doing your master's? In what subject? And it sounds like you work, too...isn't it fun?!

PS-If anyone needs recommendations for good Italian restaurants in DC, just let me know. There are PLENTY!

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

I think the 30th sounds great... and I LOVE italian.. My FH used to live in Bethesda, and Positano is one place we never got to try :)

Re: DC Get-together!

Alison - I'm doing my Master's in Communications Technology at Strayer University. I'm doing it online. What about you? Yes, I work too! I'm actually at work right now. It's a SLOW day so I'm catching up on reading the message boards. This stuff is SO addicting!

What part of Italy is Positano in? I would love to honeymoon in Italy. Been there twice......
