Anyone else planning from DC?

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Thanks, all. Can't tell you how much your support means. And sometimes it's nice to have it from people detached from the situation...and not coworkers, either. Can I tell you how difficult it's been responding to all the 'How was your vacation/holidays/break?' questions?? Ugh.

Well, hopefully things will get back to normal a little now, if possible. I am just glad I was up in NY when this all happened and able to be there for him and my mom. My brother was home from Cornell, too, so it was great having him around too (in fact, he was with my mom when they found dad the first time).

It's funny...my dad has always been a rather overbearing, controlling man (typical for an Italian Catholic father, I suppose) and my biggest fear up til now was that he'd try to plan the wedding himself, the way he wanted. Now I am just glad that he is going to be around for the wedding at all! Kinda puts things into perspective, eh?

OK, time for me to head home from work. Will try to post an update tomorrow if there's anything to report. Meanwhile, let's get crackin' on that DC GTG!!

Best,
Alison

OKAY DC Brides, lets get the GTG together!

So far it is on January 30 in Bethesda. How about around 7:30?? Is that too late? too early??

I have been trying to think of the best way to organize this. FM might work well so that everyone's response is in the same place. but then whoever gets the FM is the only one with the info. So I was thinking, perhaps we could try both. Especially since there are only a few of us.

Alison I don't know if you have already got something else planned, if so, don't let me usurp that. But I was thinking that people could post whether they are definitely coming or not and then they could also FM one of us (i am happy to do it, especially since i know you have a lot going on).

PS - Alison, I hope your dad is still doing well!

That sounds like a good plan to me, JoRo! Thanks for getting the ball rolling. -Alison

PS-Dad is still doing well. Just trying to decide now whether to go up to NY or stay home and try to relax/clean the house/do wedding stuff (we have to get those save-the-dates out, not to mention register!)

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Hey everyone! I would love to come on the 30th but 7:30 is kind of late for me. I work in DC and get off fairly early - like 4:00 - so I would have to hang out somewhere for 3 hours I also live down by Dulles airport, so that'd be a late night for me.
I would love to meet you all though, so if you can move the time up, then great! If not, just have a great time without me and fill me in on the details of how it went!

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Hi Girls! JoRo and AlisonMT thanks for planning all of this!! I would love to come to our very own DC GTG, I think 7:30 is a perfect time to have it.

AlisonMT- glad to hear your Dad is improving!! If you did go home, you wouldn't be able to clean, but you might be able to do some wedding stuff??Glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has yet to register!!!

Looking forward to meeting all of you!!

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Sorry to jump on your DC thread - I just wanted to offer any assistance in finding vendors in the area. I went to JMU and my FH lived in Falls Church for a year after he graduated and I have a BM living in Arlington, a GM in Vienna, a BM that just moved to NYC from Dupont Circle, a GM in Baltimore and a good friend planning her wedding from Gaithersburg - so I know the area! Alison - I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, but I'm glad he is doing better, also I went to Commack HS, too!

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Good, glad to hear he is okay. Hey, where are registering?? We ended up doing Macy's (since it is easy for our NY guests) and WIlliams Sonoma. It was a blast to register (let your FH take the gun!) but it took a little while. Highly recommend Tysons Macys but EARLY if you go on a Sat or Sun. Sunday early was the best (even during XMAS shopping time!)

OKAY, back to planning. So let's plan on everybody posting whether they can come and also FM me if they don't mind so that i make sure i have everybody?! That sound okay to everyone?!

Now we need to firm up the time. Is 7:30 too late? It is a school night

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Ooops, just read Anniegirl's post.
Well, what if we made it 7:00??
But then people that can get there earlier can get a drink at the bar (i am assuming this place has a bar?!) and just chill until the dinner crowd shows up. Would that be okay??

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Annie...sorry you don't think you can make it! I'm not sure if we could move the time, though, because I think there are some of us coming from Baltimore. Would 7 pm work better? I'm not sure, though, that would work for the Balto crew, because the traffic even into Bethesda can be difficult. Here's another idea: I work in Tenleytown and could maybe meet up with you early, like 5:30 or so, and we could hang out until the GTG. I live in VA too (Arlington) so maybe we could even caravan home together afterwards. Just a thought...

(the other) Alison...thanks for your thoughts! We actually sort of started one registry, at Macy's, last year, but were advised not to register for anything other than our china pattern at that time. Most of the wedding stuff I have to do right now, though, involves being here in DC, would you believe. I.e., registering, guest lists, save-the-dates, etc.

SeptemberBride...no problem jumping on! I used to do event planning here in DC so I also know plenty of vendors...too bad we're all getting married up in NY, though! But I know some ladies were looking for places to shop for dresses and also invitations, so that might be helpful. So when did you graduate from CHS? Would we have known each other?

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

AlisonMT - that's a thought (about meeting somewhere beforehand). I'd still have to metro home though, and it's an hour metro ride to Vienna, then another 20 minute drive home from there. I'll think about it though. Just let me know what the final plans are.

Oh, and so selfish of me before to not send best wishes about your dad. I type too fast sometimes....

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Not at all! Please don't feel bad; I wasn't exactly advertising it anyway.

As for the GTG, I could drop you off at the Clarendon metro afterwards, if that would make your trip shorter and easier. Let me know.

PS-Ladies, I HAVE to sign off for now or I will NEVER get any work done today. Will try to discipline myself to check back just once later this afternoon. TTYL!

Re: Anyone else planning from DC?

Alison - I graduated CHS in '96 - what about you? I got my invitations custom designed online through Lizard Designs - they are amazing and such high quality - I love them! As for dresses, let me see what I can come up with!
