Anyone else's guy just totally clueless and unimaginative when it comes to gift giving?
I just opened up my garage door for the tile guy and right there is my TIVO! I am so disappointed now that I've seen it. What the hell is he thinking leaving it out in the open like that? I put sooo much thought and effort into his gifts and he just asks me for a list and follows it to the letter.

Mine is the same way.
It actually hurts more when he gets me things he should know I don't want.
This year he got me a watch - it's a nice watch with a black leather band. But I don't wear watches at all and never one with a leather band. He said 'but you don't have one'. That's because, I DONT WEAR THEM!! I feel so ungrateful for not completely appreciating the gift. Now I feel like he wasted money because I will never wear it and he won't return it. I don't get it nor do I know what to do.
TIVO is a cool gift though!!!! You will enjoy having that

My DH is that way also.....If I don't tell him what I want...I get stupid stuff! lol! and when I do tell him, that's what I get and that's it.... I even have to remind him (ie..you know CHristmas is next week right? you better get shopping!!!) LOL!!!!
I take it with a grain of salt....he may not be the best at gift giving, but he is amazing in other ways!!!
Try not to look at negatively....at least he got you what you wanted?

Some times he's good, some times he isn't. But most of the time he is clueless. Like you, I have to write down exactly what I want. He doesn't get the subtle hints I leave through the year. But at least he tries. He does not want to be like my parents. My dad never got my mom ANYTHING, ever, for any holiday or birthday.

Mine is pretty good with coming up with stuff and also about if I say GET ME THIS, he does. I guess I'm pretty lucky.

You girls are right. I am grateful that he tries at all but it would be nice to be surprised. He came home a few months ago with some sort of a reading lamp that attaches to a nighttable. It didn't work with my style nightstand and I didn't particularly want it but he was sooo excited like he just gave me the Hope Diamond. I feel so petty sometimes but my whole family is this way. My dad gets me earrings every year for 29 years. Nice but come on how about a little effort????
Oh Well ....Now its up to me to train my sons to have more imagination than their daddy

That's how my mother is!! When she goes shopping she gets two of everything - one for me and one for sis. Now that we are not 4 & 5 years old anymore, we don't necessarily want matching gifts.

My husband tries his best to get me things that he thinks I'll like, but sometimes they are so go godawful I almost have to laugh. The best was last year when he gave me a really nice terrycloth robe until I looked at the back and it had a HUGE poodle made in pom poms . He said he knew i liked dogs. Oh my that sure went back fast.
I do leave hints around the house though. I'll cut out pictures of things I like and tape them to his computer. Hopefully this year I'll get something good lol.

See? the whole reading lamp thing? he probably thought that was so 'thoughtful' and that you were going to be so happy that he got you something that you didn't ask for....and then you didn't love it - or it didn't work with the table.
He probably got discouraged and decided to stick to the list...at least he knows he can't go wrong with it!

Sage~~~ That is his exact argument! He did offer to buy me a mink jacket but where would I wear it? I'm not currently working and we don't really go out that often so I'd be wearing it to the supermarket. He is incredibly generous and would do anything that I ask but it would be nice not to ask.

Its very rare for Danielle to tell me what she wants for presents...She doesnt really drop hints either, but when she does...I pick up on them and I store them until its time to go shopping. We set a limit this year so I got her two gifts....One she needs and one she will love....then I got her some cool stuff for her stocking.

What kills me the most, DH will ask what I want and I tell him. But he doesn't like what it is that I want and then badgers me until I can think of something I would like that he wants to buy me. LOLOL
But I have to admit DH is so attuned to when I say oh, this is nice or that's pretty. Not realizing what I was doing, we were in Bailey Banks & Biddle in September and I admired a beautiful mikimoto pearl & diamond necklace. Sure enough I got it for my birthday in October with the matching earrings! I was so surprised, they are so beautiful and I could kill him for spending (probably) a small fortune on them.
He really can't win but a love him to death

Oh My God! Matt does the same thing! HE's been trying for months to talk me out of TIVO and into the Sony version because it would interact with his computer system better. What do I care? I wanted the TIVO and for the first time....it looks like I won!

I got one for you. One hear I told my FH there was a specific sweather I wanted. I brought him to the store showed it to him. Not trusting him, I said I was going to buy it. He stopped me and said no I will rember, well low and behold on Christmas day I got a sweater, that looked nothing liek the one I wanted and it wasnt even the right color!
He tries but most of the time he is uncreative!
This year I didnt tell him anything I wanted so we will see how he does!

It would have been really funny if you got him the Sony version

Mine is the WORST. He can't think of anything on his own. I always go with him and pick the nice stuff out and he buys it for me. Then I tell him to go out on his own and 'surprise' me with a few cheaper gifts. Last year he 'surprised' me with 2 picture frames and THE CLOROX READY MOP!!! I think I have you all beat

Re: Anyone else's guy just totally clueless and unimaginative when it comes to gift giving?
ok...so FH asks me what I want for my birtday (we decided not to do holiday present with the wedding and all...but my birthday is Dec. 28). I told him I would think about it. I got the Eddie Baur catalog and there was a vest in there that I wanted. So I marked the page and gave it to FH and told him what size and color I want. He says that he just wanted ideas...not for me to pick out what I want. I say ok...I'll buy it myself. No, no, no...he says he'll get it for me. So...yesterday he calls me to ask me what size did I want? Ummm...I circled it in the catalog! I guess I know I won't have to buy it myself now!
