And if so....what did the couple do when you arrived? Was there a welcome party? What kind? Day after brunch? Anything else 'memorable' about it??
We're planning on a welcome cocktail party and a day after brunch-but just wondering what other destination couples have done.
Thanks!!

Re: Anyone ever been to a DW??
It took me a minute to realize what DW stood for
FBIL is having a destination wedding . . they are doing a 'rehearsal dinner' without a rehearsal and everyone is invited - so I guess its like a welcome party, and then the morning after they are doing a brunch for all guests around the pool.
HTH!

Re: Anyone ever been to a Destination Wedding??
I've been to two a few. At two the grooms parents hosted a huge party the night before the wedding. One I attended in Maui had a ton of events...a welcome party, rehearsal dinner for all guests hosted by the grooms parents...as well as various other planned gatherings.

Re: Anyone ever been to a Destination Wedding??
we recently went to one....
when we arrived - the rehearsal was about an hour later. After the rehearsal - they arranged for a bus tour of the area (it was Novia Scotia). We toured the area for maybe 2 hours and then ended the tour at an interactive dinner theatre thing. After the theatre, we were bussed back to the hotel.
The following day - was a free day for everyone to do whatever they wanted.
The day after was the wedding.
We did have a bonfire every night - which was WONDERFUL!!!!!
ETA: they also had a breakfast the day after the wedding...

I've been to one. The couple had huge tote bags in our rooms with everything we could possibly need! beach towel, flip flops, sunscreen, aloe, chapstick, a disposable camera, local tourist info (it was in Florida too), bottled water, cookies, etc.
There wasn't a welcome brunch, but there was a day after BBQ poolside at the hotel. it was fun b/c everyone was so relaxed. they had a little favor too - a personalized can cozy. so adorable. the bride and groom wore 'just married' bathsuits and coverups so that was adorable too.

Re: Anyone ever been to a Destination Wedding??
ive been to a few of them. all of them invited the guests to the rehearsal dinner and then a day after brunch. i think all but one organized something after the wedding, an after party.

Re: Anyone ever been to a Destination Wedding??
Thanks for all the replies ladies. We're having a RD with just the bridal party Friday night as a lot of people are coming to the wedding. Then after we are meeting up with everyone else for drinks at the hotel. Sat is the wedding followed by an after party and we'll have a brunch Sunday at his parents house (around their pool) about a mile away from the hotel. Also, each hotel room is getting a beach/tote bag filled with goodies. Think this is good? I really want people to know we appreciate them traveling for our wedding...

Re: Anyone ever been to a Destination Wedding??
I went to PR for my uncles DW. They had a big drinking party the first night on the wrap around balcony at the hotel the first night. (I was only 18) Then everyone went their separate ways.
There was no rehearsal. So the only 'dinner' we really had together was the day of the wedding.
Everyone kind of did their own thing. They had an itinerary of the day of the wedding but nothing around it.

Re: Anyone ever been to a Destination Wedding??
I am having a DW in Turkey, although my FH is Turkish and his family is there. We are having the wedding at a boutique hotel in Istanbul and our guest who are coming from abroad will stay there and we will completely book ou the hotel. I think we will have a small traditional party for the bride and the women ( Hennafeast) and the guys have something else going on. And than we will do a Brunch on the Sunday after the wedding.
