Re: Anyone ever go to Jury Duty?
That's what I was thinking, but all I hear are bad things!! The good thing is that my company pays me for it, but I'm nervous that the case might be during the wedding or honeymoon!!! Then, what?!??!?

I would love to go!! I'm a criminal justice major and find all that exciting and interesting - I've always wanted to go but never been called! When I decide I'm no longer interested I'll get called.

Re: Anyone ever go to Jury Duty?
you just tell them that you are getting married & going away they will usually let you postpone it. I went for the day but since I am a student I got out of it and postponed till august. i think that if they call u now the case should be soon in the next couple of days or next week i don't think it would last till nov. Hope u have fun!

Re: Anyone ever go to Jury Duty?
I went and served on a jury. the first day they will panel juries for a case usually happening that day or within the next few days. They will tell everyone how long they think it will last and if it would be a hardship to serve. Just think of it as a day off from work and have fun!!!

Re: Anyone ever go to Jury Duty?
I went a few years back and was selected as a juror for an armed robbery case and i LOVED it. I was out of work for 2 weeks, it was great. I was so into the trial. I cant wait to get called again.

Re: Anyone ever go to Jury Duty?
I did jury duty, but I didn't get called for anything. I just had to sit in a room and wait all day. So bring a good book with you and you're fine.

The attorneys should tell you when the trial is expected to start, and how long it is supposed to last. If it falls during your wedding or honeymoon (not likely since you are going now, unless it is a LONG trial), you can tell them that and you will be excused from that case.

Re: Anyone ever go to Jury Duty?
I've been summoned to jury duty twice - the first time in criminal court in Kew Gardens, Queens. I was called on for a panel in an arson case. We were told the case would take at least 6 months to try. All of us panelists (there were about 90) were interviewed individually by each attorney and then by the judge - it took 3 days! I ended up not being selected for that jury (whew!)
Then about 6 years ago I had jury duty at the civil courthouse in Jamaica, Queens. I was called on a panel for a car accident. The attorneys were explaining the case to us - it had happened five years prior and the woman who was hit was suing for a ridiculous amount of money in the millions. I couldn't believe it, the prosecuting attorney saw my exasperation with the amount and said I could go.

Re: Anyone ever go to Jury Duty?
I had jury duty in March, and served as a juror for a criminal case for 8 days.... Alot of it is hurry up and wait. Being a Cop, I didn't think I would get picked, but I did... It was fun seeing the other side of what I do. Yeah, make sure you bring a good book, and a snack, like pretzels or something, after a few hours you'll want to pick.... Once you're picked by the attorneys, they tell you what the case is about. But then once the trial starts, it's up to the attorneys and how long they take to present the case to the court that will determine the length of time you'll be there. Good Luck!!!!!

Re: Anyone ever go to Jury Duty?
I just finished serving last week, it was a medical malpractice case. Most pple that told the lawyers it wasnt a good time for them were excused. They'll just assign you for a later date. Because they told us the case wouldnt be more than 1 week, I did it, they cant call me again for another 6 years!(except for a Federal case)

Re: Anyone ever go to Jury Duty?
I've been twice, once for 2 days in Mineola and one for 5 days in Brooklyn. I was on a criminal trial in Brooklyn and I was the foreperson, which was quite interesting. I saw it as a nice break from the regular work week and it was not nearly as painful as many people make it out to be! I enjoyed it, but I can see where it would be a pain if you don't get paid!

Re: Anyone ever go to Jury Duty?
I did...but this was when I still lived upstate. A long...time ago. I was the first named called and actually served on the jury. I didn't mind...my job paid me and it was a quick trial.

Re: Anyone ever go to Jury Duty?
i almost got picked! =D there i was sitting in a full jury box with 2 long tables right in front of us along with a couple of lawyers to match plus the defendant. the lawyers started to talk to us... question us... to see if we were the jurors they want. they opened with letting us know of why we were there for. apparently... (EEEK) the defendant killed a man and dumped him in a barrel and then into teh river. i started to sweat profusely and was unable to answer their questions well enough for them... i ultimately got rejected. i never felt so glad to be rejected! phew!
