My father has had them and he says they work really well. I think you are only allowed a certain # per year because they are a controlled substance. I belive they give them to injured atheletes before competitions if that is any indication of their effectivness.
But if you have never had one before, please dont get your first one before your wedding! You never know what your reaction will be!

I had one once to reduce a giant zit. It hurt initially, but within 5 minutes I felt fine, and the zit shrunk.

Re: Anyone ever have a cortozone (sp?) shot?
jennbaby,
i am not sure what is wrong with your back- do you have a herniated disc?
my fi was injured badly several years ago and has some herniated discs in his back.
he could not work for almost 6 mos. he ended up getting the epideral series in his back (three shots spaced over time.)
he says it was like a miracle. obviously it depends on your injury but i can fm you with more info if you want.
i have had corisone shots in my toes, and truthfully, it really didnt work for me, but my mom has had them in her shoulder and it has worked. it really depends on the person.
good luck!

Re: Anyone ever have a cortozone (sp?) shot?
My friend had it done for his back, and it was painful, and the MD needed to do a series of three in one months time.....you may not want to do this on the wedding day...start the treatment a month before (that's what he said and my FI is telling me...I know nothing about this)...

I had them done in my wrist a couple of years ago and I have to be honest, they do hurt. I would check with your doctor to see if you can have it done a week before the wedding. You don't want to try that out for the first time on your wedding day.

Re: Anyone ever have a cortozone (sp?) shot?
My Mom has them occasionally when her Rhuematoid Arthritis really flares up badly. I think they limit the number you have over time because too many can lead to bone brittleness, or decreases in density, however, she's had RA for 40 years now, and has had them more than a few times over that period, so don't fret too much over that issue if you're not getting them regularly.
She says they really help - I think she often gets them for her knees, and she's had every type of other drug and treatment that's out there -

Re: Anyone ever have a cortozone (sp?) shot?
I have a bulging disc in my back that is touching my nerve and this makes my leg & foot slighty numb.
I am in alot of pain & it's hard to move certain ways. I will see a doctor to get this I need it for my wedding day. I doubt in 27 days I will be completely better.

Re: Anyone ever have a cortozone (sp?) shot?
My mom always warns me about them b/c I am of child bearing age. Ask your doctor about this.
Also, not to scare you but my FI had one once and he actually fainted in the doctors office. I am sure his case is extreme but on your wedding day you might be a little nervous and it may have a different effect on you. Just ask the doctor.
Good luck and feel better.

Re: Anyone ever have a cortozone (sp?) shot?
ive been getting cortizone shots in my big toe (long story) for about 15 years. they work great. the shot itself is the worst pain ive ever felt, then for the rest of the day the site is very sore. the next morning i wake up with no pain and it stays like that for about 3 months. you cant get them too often, but i usually dont need another one until its been enough time. good luck

Re: Anyone ever have a cortozone (sp?) shot?
yes - i've had them multiple times in my shoulder before i had my surgeries. they are a god-send!! i always got sore where the shot went in, but it was well worth it. when my shoulder acted up, i would be miserable for weeks. the shots allowed me to function somewhat normally during the day, and i took it easy at night.
