Anyone ever have surgery and/or general anastesia?
Was wondering what the effects were on you after you woke up? I am going in for surgery next month (nothing serious) and was wondering your experience with anasthesia. They told me you sometimes wake up with the chills or nauseaus......any past stories would be appreciated.

Not to scare you, this was just my experience but I woke up and just instantly started crying hysterically. I dont even know why... they said it was from the anesthesia and to just keeping taking deep breaths in and out to clear it out.

Re: Anyone ever have surgery and/or general anastesia?
I had my tonsils out when I was 19. I woke up very scared because I remember talking to the doctor what felt like a second ago, but it was really hours ago. Plus I wear glasses and I didn't have them on when I woke up so I couldn't really see well and my head was all foggy. I was just terrified but calmed down quickly. Other than that the only side affects I had were going to the bathroom a lot the next day and sleeping almost the entire day on and off.
Good luck with your surgery!

I was put under 2 different times when I had my wisdom teeth removed. My DH (BF at the time) said I was crying hysterically for no reason. I thought I was laughing?

I woke up shaking and very nauseous. I had to fight the urge to cry hysterically.

I just recently had surgery and I was fine. It all depends on what they use. There are several types and whether or not they stick a tube down your throat or just give you something in an IV.
One time I did wake up freezing but that was about the extent of it. I was at Northshore and they cover you in nice toasty warmed blankets.

I had a bad reaction. No nausea, but I was ANGRY!!!
I was out for 4 1/2 hrs for a breast reduction - I woke up ANGRY. I was kicking and screaming, and flailing my arms so wildly that I broke some stiches and had to be re-stitched. I didn't feel anything though, I was still numb. And I later found out that I got the Doc in the crotch with my foot. Yikes!

I woke up feeling cold and groggy. Didn't get angry, upset, or sick, though. You'll be fine!

i remember just feeling really groggy when i woke up from my appendectomy. and i can remember feeling them taking a tube out of my throat. when i was younger and had teeth pulled i woke up yelling and screaming and trying to pull the stuff out of my mouth. i think it depends a bit on your mood when you go under so just try to stay calm and relax at the beginning.

same here...not to mention the fact that I wanted so badly to rip my gown off to make sure they hadn't removed my breast completely!!! ( i had a lump removed that they thought was cancerous)

I had my wisdom teeth out 2 years ago and the doctor said I would either wake up crying or laughing and that both were normal, just an effect of the anesthesia. I woke up and my dad was sitting next to me and I started giggling uncontrollably. All I could say was 'Whoa, this is like junior year in college!'
The vicodin he gave me for the pain made me vomit though. I only took it once.

Just wanted to add something that might make you feel a little better: the effect wore off pretty quickly for me, less than 1/2 hr. Within 10 minutes I was feeling alot better.

Okay i am getting General Anasthesia. Does that mean i will get a tube down my throat?? I didn't realize that. I thought they did a face mask or IV something? I gag when anything is put down my throat.....anyone know. I am having real surgery too...not the in a doctors office type (i.e. wisdom teeth, testing, etc)

I've had it quite a few times - and to me - it was like the best sleep I ever had - every time. No bad experience here - and no - they don't put a tube down your throat.
