Anyone ever have surgery and/or general anastesia?

Original post by SeptWed

Was wondering what the effects were on you after you woke up? I am going in for surgery next month (nothing serious) and was wondering your experience with anasthesia. They told me you sometimes wake up with the chills or nauseaus......any past stories would be appreciated.

Ive had 4 surgeries. 2 hospital and 2x wisdom teeth. All 4 times I was told I was laughing and I would not stop talking...

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I've had it maybe 5 or 6 times. Each time I was laughing hysterically when I woke up and wouldn't shut up! The only negative thing that happens to me is that body crashes the next day and I need sleep.

I have had it about 4 times and each time I woke up horribly nauseous. No pain, but nauseous.

I woke up shaking and very nauseous. I had to fight the urge to cry hysterically.

This was my experience as well... the chills, shaking , extreme nausea... and I felt hysterical also but didn't actually break down

Luckily, it all passed really quickly...

I woke up freezing...I never had any nausea or anything, but I was cold for HOURS afterward.

General anesthesia can be several things. There is a possibility of them putting a tube almost down your throat to keep your tongue from choking you. I had that. My throat was a little sore for a few days.

I woke up and I was really nauseated and dizzy. I didn't throw up but I felt like I wanted to. They don't let you gt up for a few hours...I had to use a bedpan, which was fun...haa..they're pumping you with fluids do you're always peeing. I rememebr when i finally did get up to go to the bathroom I felt SO dizzy like I was gonna fall over...then they made me eat jello and take codeine and see if i could hold that down, and I st in a chair for awhile after a lot fo time in a bed, and then they let me go home for the next day or so I felt nauseated and chills...like a bad fever kind of thing...but it subsided after a day.

ETA I woke up as they were wheeling me out of the OR and I was SCREAMING (not good since I had just had my tonsils and adenoids removed), I ripped the mask off my face. I was just really scared..and I'm a little calustrophobic so i didn't like the mask being on my face and I wouldn't let them put it back on me...but it was only for a few seconds as I woke up, then I calmed down as I became aware...it's just scary because I woke up with amsks all over me, being wheeled down a hallway, with all these strangers looking over me...it was really scary but after I got ym bearings no problem

When I had my wisdom teeth taken out the doc said 'Do you know how hard it is to take someones teeth out when they wont shut up '

As you can see e/o is really different! I've had wisdom teeth removed and ambulatory surgery. Both times I was fine and wanted to go home as soon as I woke up. But they don't let you; they keep you for a little while to make sure there's no problems. But my cousin has gone under a few times and each time she vomits for the rest of the day. It depends. Good luck and hope all goes well!

I woke up feeling cold and groggy. Didn't get angry, upset, or sick, though. You'll be fine!

Me too! Nothing major. Good luck!

I've had it twice, and I must say, besides the pain, it was the best sleep I ever got!

I didn't wake nauseous or scared or anything, I wanted to sleep more and was pissed they woke me up!
The first time I think I was under longer and the pain was more severe, so I was doped up on morphine, so I was more groggy, but all in all, it was fine.

I remember waking up very slowly and my arms and legs felt very, very heavy. That wore off. It felt like coming out of a very deep sleep. I recall that I felt fine once I was out of recovery. This was for plastic surgery to remove a birthmark on my neck when I was 9.

My brother, on the other hand, had hip surgery and was very sick- throwing up and groggy. I wonder if I got less because of the type of surgery because I really felt ok fairly quickly afterwards.

I have had it a few times. I felt groggy, but nothing too bad. Definitely tired that day & the morning after.
I did, however, get pretty messed up on the pain killers they ahd me on after the surgery.

Not to scare you, this was just my experience but I woke up and just instantly started crying hysterically. I dont even know why... they said it was from the anesthesia and to just keeping taking deep breaths in and out to clear it out.

that's how i react as well.
i've had anesthesia several times and each time I wole up and started crying....

I have had 4 surgeries and each time I had a different experience. One time I woke up and I was fine, another I woke up and started hysterical crying, another time I woke up and started throwing up and another time I woke up screaming and the nurses came over and gave me something that sorta calmed me and knocked me out again. Each person is different. I hope everything goes well!! Good Luck!!
