Re: anyone ever participate at Hofstra's Marching Band Festival???

YES!!! I was a member of the Brentwood Big Green Machine. We were fierce.

Sidenote: The night of the Hofstra Festival of 91 (I was a sophomore) I had scarfed down McDonalds for dinner. The line for the bathroom was wrapped around the stadium, so I never made it in and I really had to go. I developed a piercing headache and then finally when all the bands assembled to play America the Beautiful, I TOSSED MY FRIES right on the 10 yard line!! My bandmembers never let me live it down. To this day, if I see another Green Machine member, they remember me as the one who yakked on the 10 yard line

OMG, what a blast from the past!!!

Literally...I played the flute in the Commack HS marching band 1987-88 and I VIVIDLY remember Hofstra for a) the hook-ups on the bus and b) our lovely rendition of The Final Countdown. We were supposed to form a launching rocket ship, with the flagline coming out the bottom in large circles to represent smoke...but when we watched it later on TV, it really just looked like a giant launching P*n*s!!

Edited to add: HearzBellz, you might remember this if you were there those years!

I wasn't in band...but our band (harborfields) was always really good...the director of my time...late 80's early 90's always directed the all LI band...Mr Domincetti

for a small school (less than 800) we had a huge band (150)

AlisonMT... yes I remember...Everytime we wanted to do a visual that the bad director didn't like, our standard answer was 'but Commack has a p*n!s....we did Final Countown also in 87, and we had little flags (like landing a plane type flags) that the colourguard was supposed to keep in their vest & then pull out & do this routine with the glow in the dark flags. Well one of the girls took the flag out & her vest came with it.

BTW, the hook-ups on the bus were the best.... I got mono at Hofstra!!! The funny thing was, ou of 90 of us, abut 30 got mono.... we were very baaaaaad little band geeks!!!

Meanwhile, we also did the Gator Bowl in FLA..... talk about the ultimate in bus hook-ups

I did!! Kings Park High School Kingsmen!!!! French Horn player turn color guard! I loved it. Actually, my friend is AP at Northport and I asked her if I could come with her thisyear. Northport has always been the best and the Competition although I hate to admit that!!

LOL, Hearz, I didn't realize we were so (in)famous!! And now that I think about it, I DO remember another school doing Final Countdown. Ah, the 80s were a funny time to be a band geek!

ETA: I think we all need to begin our posts to this thread by saying, 'This one time, at Hofstra...'

Oh my, how many band geeks we have here. I played piccolo from 91-93 seasons. We had so much fun. We had such a bad attitude but we almost always won at the TOB and CMBC competitions.

I never thought I'd have to relive these memories. I was at Hofstra once- I think 89? I was on Color Guard at Smithtown West! I was a total geek but thought I was really cool in my uniform.
