Cruise out of NY? FH & I have been on cruises before, but never out of NY to the Caribbean. V's Valentines Day question reminded me to push for what I really want for Valentine's & my birthday, a a mini moon vacation! I found a great deal (quite possibly a steal) for a 7night cruise out of NY to Bahamas... I was wondering if anyone knew how this could be so affordable...? Is the path from NY south super rocky?

Re: NWR: Anyone ever take a
is that the 7 day cruise on NCL? We go with FH's family every year on that cruise and it's great! (Not to the Bahamas but the one to Bermuda). We always have a blast on that trip and it's nice because you don't Island hop so once you dock you don't feel rushed to have to try and explore everything in one day. I think the Bahamas one is the same way (though I could be wrong).

I did and we went to bermuda. I would never do it again. I grew up on the water and NEVER get sea sick but everyone other than me and my dad was sooo sick and had to wear patches. The water was so rough from ny all the way to the Carolinas.

I took a 10 day on Princess Cruise Lines and it was really rough! I didn't get sea sick but there were definitely times where I felt like I was drunk bc I was swaying so much haha

Re: Anyone ever take a (mini moon related)
Depends when it sails. NY ships usually start sailing out in April and the seas are rocky due to the weather here. Once you get closer to the islands it settles. I've always sailed from Florida but did go out of NJ in July to Bermuda and Bahamas but it was July so smooth sailing. Prices will be cheaper until the summer but you will be more prone to possible seasickness.

we're looking at dates from March - April starting March 5th, we're going away Presidents wknd with another couple.
We went on a repositioning cruise this Sept, from Copenhagen to Venice... Seas were rocky at times (the crew put the *bags* in public areas) and we were fine.

Re: Anyone ever take a (mini moon related)
ive done a lot of cruises out of NY and NJ(royal caribbean)
I did bermuda and bahamas and carib.
the only time i got sea sick or felt that the seas were rough was one cruise to bermuda, but that was bc they were using an older, smaller ship. I went a 2nd time on a larger ship and had not problems what so ever.
look into royal carib cruises too, the port from NJ is not that much farther. and the royal carib line is sooo nice!
I like NCL and royal carib the best

ITA.......I've been on about 20 cruises (not all left out of NY/NJ though), but I'd say that any time after March, the waters are a little better. You should be fine.

We've cruised on Princess, Carnival, Royal Caribbean (our last cruise in Europe , and our HM cruise will be with them). We have never cruised on NCL.
What is the diff between RC & NCL, the cruises differ $350pp according to Expedia.

I haven't been on NCL recently, BUT: RCL is my ultimate fav. What I like is that you can still have the set dining time and set waiters/wait staff. To me, I like sitting at the same table, same time, and getting to know the waiter - thats always part of the fun. I've heard that NCL's my time dining runs smoothly (opposed to RCL's which does NOT), but personally, that's not for me. My sister just recently got back from a NCL cruise and her and her friends had food poisoning. With that being sad, I'm sure it could happen anywhere!!! I'm biased - I'm an RCL girl all the way. Take RCL!! Plus, since you've been on RCL, I'm sure you're enrolled in the Captains Club, so you'll get nice perks :)

If we do RCL we will bump up from Gold to Diamond, this is a good point since we booked a RCL transatlantic cruise for our honeymoon Thanks for bringing this up!

Hmmm....I did this exact cruise in 2005 in May and it was completely fine....no rough seas...I loved the ease of cruising out of NYC and will def do it again in the future. I loved it! I would say go for it!
And by the way NCL is amazing...everyone was so nice...and I love the freestyle dining!

Re: Anyone ever take a (mini moon related)
yeah we went in May - nevere cruise in March or April so not sure about the waters then. But we've never had a problem cruising in May. I think on the first cruises there were a few times I felt a bit nauseous from the boat swaying but that was only one day out of 7 so it was totally worth it. I blame it on me being a newbie to cruising. Every other year I have been perfectly fine.

OMG !!!!!!!!! Then this is a no brainer!!! Being Diamond is the best ever!!! And btw - your fiance will become diamond when you get married, if he isn't already. I'm diamond, and my fiance isn't anything, lol. So his first cruise he'll be diamond.
Do this so you can be upgraded!! It really truly makes such a difference in terms of EVERYTHING. Getting on/liquor/seats in dining room/coupons/gifts...I could go on lol.
