Anyone getting into NY Times?
Is anyone announcing their wedding in any publications... FI and I were thinking about the Times? Announced it to HS and College alumni information...

Re: Anyone getting into NY Times?
I didnt bother submitting my announcment to the Times because there was NO WAY we were going to be picked...neither of us are Ivy Leaguers and neither of our parents are socialites. I wish there was another New York City paper that did announcments but aside from Newsday (Im not a LIer) there is nothing.

Re: Anyone getting into NY Times?
That seems weird... you have to be somebody big to get into the paper.... I just thought you had to pay... and it was done at random... Really?

Re: Anyone getting into NY Times?
My fiance is an Ivy League grad, so I'm hoping we can get in
My cousin used to work for the NYT, and got her brother in, so she may be able to help me as well.
NYT SAYS it's 'random', or 'as space allows' or something -- but unless you went to an Ivy, your parents are socialites, or you have a high-profile type job, you probably won't get in
I only want to do it because FH wants it --his brother tried when he got married, and didn't get in. You know, that whole sibiling competition thing, FH wants to one up his bro!

Re: Anyone getting into NY Times?
I don't think being an Ivy Leaguer helps either. My Husband and I both are Ivy Leaguers -plus he goes to an Ivy League med school and we didn't make it!!

Re: Anyone getting into NY Times?
Hopefully... we'll get in the week before you Terrior. I went to Ivy (Columbia) but that's my only pull.
It's cool if I don't... Just a thought...

Re: Anyone getting into NY Times?
I heard you have to have a connection at the NY Times. My friend is a writer for them and my mother got my cousin in when he got married... If I do get in, I will totally tell you guys when I know..

Re: Ivy Leaguers
I'm curious to know from those who are Ivy Leaguers, or whose fiances are, with which schools you are affiliated... My FH and I both went to Cornell and I've already met at least two fellow alums on this board, just within the last month or so. It's always so much fun to make connections!
Btw, we live in DC, so probably won't even bother with the NYT...my Mom did put us in Newsday, though, since she lives on LI, but they totally cut off my head in the photo...doh!

Re: Ivy Leaguers
Just like Alison, we live in DC too, so i don't think we will do the NYTs. I am curious about the Ivy Leaguers, and also if there are any other Cornell alumns out there. Alison and i just found each other last week!

Re: Ivy Leaguers
my husband's a Cornell grad (as Alison already knows). He's also a Stanford grad (for his 2 masters).I'm a state school girl myself.
just wondering - but why are you girls only interested in what other Ivy Leaguers we have on the boards?

Re: Ivy Leaguers
Only because someone brought it up in the context of the NYT discussion, that's why it sparked my interest. It would be fun to have ANY sort of 'alumni connection' conversation...heck, it's cool to find out who went to the same high school too...as we also already know, right, Lisa?
(How is Al doing these days, btw? Have you guys seen Eileen or Erin recently?)

Re: Ivy Leaguers
We saw Erin in October - at Cindy and Shamil's wedding. She was dancing up a storm with Ted. Did you know Cindy? Al and Erin lived with her senior year.Al's great. We're gearing up for our big trip east - we leave on the 20th.
edited to say: I don't think I've met Eileen.

Re: Ivy Leaguers
You cant pay to get into the NYT. Im sure its more than just being an Ivy League grad but that almost a prerequisite to be considered. Maybe if you saved kittens from a burning building?

Re: Ivy Leaguers
I was considering trying to get some of us together while I'm home since I can never attend the get togethers, but I figured everyone would be too busy with holiday stuff...

Re: Ivy Leaguers
just like Alison, i thought it would be fun to make connections
. I'm definitely not snobby about schools. i actually went to the state part of Cornell (Ag school), which is pracitically a NY state school. i also think the high school connection would be fun too!!Back to schools, my FH went to Louisiana State University and Florida State Univ. Anyone else out there marrying a southern boy!?
and i don't think they would ever put me in the NYTs. we're not exactly blue bloods. my parents are both teachers (the most awesome/thankless job on earth!)
