Anyone go to Mystic, CT? What did you do there?

DH and I are looking for a weekend getaway for our 1 year anniversary... something that is affordable. I found a decent rate for a room at the Amerisuite in Mystic.... has anyone ever stayed there? Any opinions? What exactly is there to do in Mystic? I will be about 4 1/2 months pregnant by then.... so I can't be too active.... is Mystic any good? Thanks.

i passed through en route from newport, ri. it was in november and although it was a short visit, we drove around and looked at houses and ate at mystic pizza ( i got a shirt!). i know the seaport/aquarium is there too and there were a couple of shops. i'd go back to visit.

We stayed there once! We went to the foxwoods during the day and Mohegan sun at night. It was a little bit of a far drive though. The next day we went to the Mystic Aquarium! That was fun! I think it is better to go during the summer. When we went it was kinda cold out so there wasn't much to do.

There's the Aquarium and some shops...It's a nice getaway!
Just don't eat at Flanagan's at the Ramada there....it's a puke fest galore!!

We went and stayed at the Mystic Inn/Inn at Mystic (?) (nice, pretty room w/jacuzzi tub) ... did the aquarium and hit Foxwoods

I guess I'm the only one who wasn't impressed. DH & I went for a long weekend last summer, and after one full day we were really bored. I should say we aren't gamblers, so we didn't do Foxwoods.

The aquarium is not much bigger than the one in Riverhead and we breezed through it in 1/2 day. Then we did the Seaport thing, but thought it was geared more to families. We did do some shopping and I took a picture in front of Mystic Pizza.

We thought the best part of the trip was the ferry ride and driving through the North Fork.

We did four things when we went there in 2002... 1.) Mystic seaport. 2.) Aquarium (you gotta see the blue lobster.. he's so cool.. there's like 1 blue one out of a million but look out for the penguins.. they get testy!) 3.) Mystic Pizza...which was REALLY good. And if you get a chance.. go to MOHEGAN SUN. I LOVED it compared to Foxwoods. It is A LOT better than Foxwoods. JMO

When we went 2 years ago, we went walking along the water...the aquarium, we ate at Mystic Pizza, went out to dinner (can't remember the restaurant's name), went to Foxwoods.

We had a lot of fun...you will too!!!

We went to Mystic a few yrs ago and stayed at a Best Western or was it a Days Inn - which had free shuttles to both Mohegan and Foxwoods. We also took the car ferry from Orient Point, LI which was a beautiful ride.

Did the same things everyone mentioned:

Mystic Seaport
Mystic Aquarium
Foxwoods (wasnt impressed but did have a nice meal there - I hear much better things about Mohegan Sun)
Walked around the small town and ate at Mystic Pizza

Also had dinner at Go Fish which was in Olde Misticke Village - was good from what I remember...
And shopped at Olde Misticke Village which was a cute variety of shops.

I think its a nice area for a weekend trip....

We went to Mystic in November and had a great time..We stayed at the Amerisuite's and the room was very nice and clean and they had a nice continental breakfast, and free coffee/hot chocloate and popcorn. We did what everyone else did, Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun, Aquarium and walked thru the town and shops. It is a perfect weekend getaway!

Everyone had great suggestions as to what to do around Mystic, but if you wantto take a day trip while you're there you can drive to Rhode Island. You can either go to a nearby beach town like Westerly or you could drive to Newport or Providence. Newport is really artsy and you should go on a couple of mansion tours. I think that's a perfect weekend getaway.

we went a couple months ago to seaport and thought it was cute, but wouldn't really go back. we left early and just went gambling i think it's cute if you just want to relax in your room or walk around, but there aren't too many activities.

I agree with all Octgroom says. I was at the aquarium about 5 years ago and thought it was nice. and Mohegan is MUCH better than foxwoods, I should know, I go often. lol. But since you say you are pregnant, watch out cuz its a smoke house..even the non-smoking sections get smoky..

my husband&I went over the summer for the weekend, it was 'OK' wouldnt go back. A friend suggested when I told her I was going, to go to Providence RI instead.I should have listened to her!
