Re: Anyone have a good fruitcake recipe?

I think i am going to try this recipe, i don't normally like fruitcake but my father worked a wedding where they gave out fruitcake and it was the best i have ever taseted. It was some sort of tradition to give out fruitcake, not sure what it was about but ever since then i hae been looking for one that tastes like it. Does anybody know about giving out the fruitcake at weddings?
Thanks

Thanks. This does look good. Do you think I could substitute another liqueur or brandy for the cream sherry? I have so many in the house I hate to go buy another one.
How did the choc. chips taste in it? I never had fruitcake with chocolate. It does sound very interesting, I must say.

I think brandy might work nicely in this cake too especially with the chocolate. My MIL said she liked it because it wasn't too sweet. I think that the chocolate mellows out the fruit a little bit ..HTH good luck!

Re: Anyone have a good fruitcake recipe?

oops for got to say that fruitcake is a English tradition ..............'Traditional English wedding cake is a fruitcake, usually made with raisins, ground almonds, cherries and marzipan. The top layer of the wedding cake is called the 'christening cake' which the couple is saves for the baptism of their first child.

The fruitcake is served at the wedding reception along with another traditional cake -- the groom's cake -- which originated during the Tudor period. It was once English custom for this to be a fruitcake as well, but today, the groom's cake is likely to be chocolate.'

I will definitely try it with brandy. Do you also do the soaking and wrapping in cheesecloth with the brandy?

Thanks for the background. I knew it was an English tradition to have fruitcake but did not know about the groom's cake. Actually, it was on BHB that I heard about it for the first time.

Have a great holiday season.
Thanks again.
