Anyone have their wedding or a special event when.... (UPDATE, Rehearsal Dinner)

a family member or close love one was in the hospital or (God forbid) died near your wedding day?

How did you deal?

My grandmother went into the hospital on Sunday, we just found out she had a massive stroke and has little brain activity. She is on a resperator and can't breath on her own. My family is pretty much going to have to decide what to do. I am really close with my grandma and it is hard to be happy for my upcoming wedding (this saturday).

Sorry for such a sad post.

My mother's sister died the day before my brother's wedding in 2002. It was a total shock, but somehow my mother held it together and made it through the wedding. My cousins came to the church, but skipped the reception. It was a roller coaster weekend - so happy one day at the wedding, so sad the next day at the wake.

Life goes on...

ETA: Sorry to hear about your grandmother.

your right about life going on. I know grandma would want me to continue on. She was very proud of meand my FH.

I haven't had a wedding or special event while some one was in the hospital, but I wanted to send my prayers and thoughts to you and your family!!

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this.
I think you should do the best you can to go on with the wedding and enjoy it. I'm sure you've worked very hard to make the day special and your grandmother wouldn't want you to sit around morning. It sounds ironic, but you should be celebrating the wonderful life she had, as well as the bginning of a new life for your and FH. Good luck with everything.

i know my FH's friend was in a situation where an uncle on his wife's side was ill and if he would have passed away the family would not attend the wedding. in their religion it is customary to grieve for i think 6 months or a year...

they were really worried, but everything turned out fine in the end. hope that your grandmother does not suffer and know that her heart will be with you on your special day!

Hi-

My FI's grandmother just died, so I know the anixety. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I can't begin to give you advice on what to do - that's a personal decision that you and your family will have to make.

Do you have wedding insurance? It would cover this if you decided to postpone.

I'm so sorry you & your family are going through this.

My friend's grandfather died about a week before his wedding & the whole family went anyway. Even his grandmother.
His cousin mentioned it in his speech, whihc was nice.

and another friend lost her dad a month before & I think her wedding was the first time she had any fun, so she was sad, but was able to let go for a little while.

Oh boy, do I know the feeling!

My dad has end stage lung cancer and is not doing well at the moment.
FI's grandmother also on a respirator in hospital and about to pass away (he is very close to her).

AND there's more but I can't get into details right now.

We are completely devastated but taking it day by day. Whoever it is that is special to you and has passed will be with you the day of your wedding in soul and spirit.

Maybe setting aside a special moment for them during the ceremony will help!

Take care, its a tough time but it will get easier. We are lucky to have great friends and family to help us up.

I've thought about that recently (have grandparents that are old) and honestly i am unsure what I would do as well. I'm sorry you have to go through this soooo close to your wedding and i'll keep you & your family in my prayers.
