Anyone Heard of Hem to Hollow Term?

Anyone Heard of Hem to Hollow Term?

I guess most of you who ordered or are in the process of ordering your gowns are familiar with the term 'hem to hollow'. I just heard of it recently when I was ready to order my gown. I ordered it today :)

Because the bottom of my gown had scalloped lace detailing, I was strongly recommended to do a 'hem to hollow' where they measure me from my neck to the floor for an exact length of the gown. This tagged on an extra $150 to the cost. I hope the cost for alterations would be cheaper as a result of this!

Are you ladies doing this or have had this measurement done? Please share costs. I hear the cost varies from gown to gown. My question is if this $150 fee is mandated from the manufacturer or if the bridal place is getting a cut of this amount.

TIA!

i had my gown measured that way for me - it was thrown in - but it is supposed to reduce the price of alterations

Looks like I'm the only one who had to pay the extra cost

Wow, $300 would've been a lot extra!

i had a hollow to hem measurement taken and had to pay an extra 150. so this way, i'll only have to pay for alterations on the bodice part.

i had this done as well and just checked my receipt - they charged me $100. the dress place has a $300 max i believe on alterations, so I guess its good i got $100 out of the way, so far!

I got a hollow-to-hem. I was charged $100. I didn't need any length alterations. The length came perfect.

They thought that I would need Hollow to hem on my dress because of the bottom and it would have cost me $100. Luckily the seamstress looked at it and was able to shorten the dress instead.

they do that when they won't or can't hem the dress because of the design on the bottom. it's cool because if they measured correctly you shouldn't need an alteration to the length of the dress.

I do remember years ago the bridal suites hemmed gowns from the waiste (by taking them up) if it was too long. But, they altered the design a bit and some designers protested. That's why the suites hollow to hem I think now.
